Thursday’s TPS Report: Love Quotes Scarves

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Love Quotes Italian Linen Scarf in Raspberry Mousse
Today’s TPS report is, admittedly, inspired by a “trend report” over at ShopStyle on Love Quotes scarves, where there is an impressive array of all the celebrities wearing the scarves. As a summertime trend, we’re not so sure it makes sense, but we love any stylish thing that will keep us warm during the frigid months of office air conditioning. Here’s the deal: each scarf comes with a tag containing a “love quote” by someone famous (hence the name). That might not be enough to shell out $85, but the fine Italian linen/viscose blend might change your mind. It doesn’t hurt that 10% of their profits go to children’s charities, either. There’s a stunning array of colors available: 32 colors available from Tobi alone. We like Raspberry Mousse (pictured at right) for August into fall. 1. They’re beautiful, but wouldn’t they wrinkle easily because they are linen?

Thinking about something similar that would wrinkle less, do you have any suggestions for where to buy nice but not-too-expensive pashminas?

  2. I think most scarves are going to wrinkle a fair amount. Scarves/wraps we’ve bought:

$10 on the street in Soho — does the job if you’re trapped in your office and freezing, or if you need a particular color to go with a dress. Looks kinda cheap if you’re at an event where people know pashminas, though.

$24, jersey, Gap (recently) — so warm and comfy but not very lux

$135, cashmere/wool, Bendel’s — WAY too heavy and itchy; we would not recommend

$150, on sale, Loro Piana outlet at Woodbury — WORTH IT. Wrinkles like mad (cashmere/silk) unless it’s folded neatly once taken off, but amazingly just folding it keeps the wrinkles at bay. Super, super soft, and crazy warm in the winter.

So for $85 — particularly considering all the celebrities wearing the scarf, which means it’s got to be soft and comfy, at least — Love Quotes might be a good middle ground. Our guess is that if you fold it neatly between wearings it’ll be fine.

  3. I wanted to add another scarf to teh mix — it’s the Tranquilit Savasana wrap made out of bamboo fiber. It’s a little thicker (and bigger) than the ones in the post or the comments, but the savasana wrap keeps me warmer than any other wrap ever. In black it looks very professional and doesnt have the wrinkling issue that some pashminas have. I have two black ones, as well as shell (beigey pale pink), latte (neutral medium beige) and au naturel (cream/white with a black piping). On weekends I have worn the shell and the latte the way the model wears them, so they are still thin enough to do that type of drape.

Black and naturel (which is a pretty cream with a black piping) are here: http://www.tranquilit.com/detail.aspx?ID=118
