Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

We love this ladylike ruched top from Nic + Zoe. It looks sophisticated and elegant, but still young — to wit, check out how great it looks with jeans in the picture. For work we’d wear it with a pencil skirt and a chunky bracelet worn on top of the sleeves, as well as either a simple necklace (pearls, diamond solitaire) or a brooch. Available at Zappos in “dark stone” and coal for $89. Nic+Zoe – Ruched Wrap (Dark Stone) – Apparel

ooh, that is really cute, but I might add a camisole underneath to play it safe with the neckline—wrap tops can be tricky!
Just bought two tops like this – black and cream/vanilla. I am now determining the best way to keep the top flap where it should be…tape, a couple of stiches, little gold safety pin…any other ideas? The camis I have would change the whole look of the blouse…and the thought of going on the hunt for two new camis to specifically accomodate these leaves me cold. I recall the wrap dupioni silk blouses from about five years ago and being on the receiving end of a few accidental flashes. I stayed away from that trend but couldn’t resist how cute these looked. Of course, now that I have them home I just keep looking at them and wondering how to best deal with this. I still have the tags on and may just take them back….
R, this might not be your style, but how about a brooch, a la Michelle Obama?
I do have an antique brooch I could use…I’ll definitely try it. Thanks!
R, I would definitely visit your tailor and have it stitched closed, or put in a discreet snap, some kind of closure. I have cross over knit tops I’ve had stitched together and the top becomes much easier to wear. Being insecure of flashing another is not a good way to go.
Brooches are sometimes too heavy for a single layer knit, and does it work centered in the middle of your bustline, like at the base of a V neckline? Lets just say focal point.
I was thinking the brooch could work, but not on it’s own. The idea did get me thinking that I could do a brooch with a few long necklaces – of the thin chain and faux pearl dangly variety – that way the brooch is no longer a focal point but part of everything that is happening front and center. However, I could do all of that, plus have it tailored, and then not worry about a thing and feel very secure! ;)
safety pin, but pin it where it doesn’t show at all.
Has anyone seen the short-sleeve version of this top? Love it for spring!
