Bargain Friday’s TPS Report: Old Navy Camisoles

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

old navy camisolesOld Navy is having some great sales right now: the clearance section, for starters, is 50% off with code HALFOFF. (If you’re an outdoor runner, be sure to check out their fleece pullovers in the bargain section — great for layering.) In the non-clearance section, there are a number of great basics, both for work and for the weekend, such as these lovely camisoles. Regularly $8, they’re now $5 each if you buy two. We’ve spoken of their camisoles before, but briefly: they’re simple and thin for when you want something to wear under a button-down (lest the buttons gape), they’re great beneath sweaters when you want a slightly smoother line without the discomfort of a Spanx-like apparatus, and they’re great when you’re wearing a dress or shirt that is just a bit too low cut. We particularly like the blue shades for this last purpose — if you’re trying to raise the neckline of a blue dress you all too often have to resort to white (or purple or green or some other non-blue color) because it’s too hard to find something to match; we like that the Dark Night and Dark Sea Blue camisoles a) increase your chances of getting a match and b) even if it doesn’t match, it’ll look better than white. 1. Wow! I just stumbled upon your blog via the Working Girl blog, and I love it! I will definitely put you in my list of blogs I check regularly.

  2. Great find! BTW, Sephora is also offering free shipping with no min: http://tinyurl.com/dlr9uw

  3. I love these camisoles. I have 4 that are great (bought about a year ago). But when I decided to stock up on 3 more colors this fall, they had tweaked the design. Now the straps were VERY long, completely out of proportion. I am planning to take in the straps on the ones I’ve cut the tags off. If that doesn’t go well I’ll take back the camisoles I haven’t worn yet.

All in all, I’d definitely suggest trying them on in a store rather than buying online.

  4. I wear those camisoles under almost everything, Anna, but I need to do the same thing with the straps. It’s frustrating.

  5. For basic cami’s, I also like Target’s Merona camisoles. I’m tall, with a longer torso, and they seem a little longer than the ON ones. I think they’re also on sale for around $5’ish.

For those having issues with straps that are too long, try gathering them at the back with a safety pin, so you get more of a racerback effect. It’s a quick way to shorten straps that aren’t adjustable. Or, since we all love infomercials, you can pay money for that bra strap clip: https://www.strapperfect.com/flare/next

  6. Anna – I thought it was just me. I have the same problem with the newer purchases. But, I do like them.

    Corporette chica – nice site!

  7. The HALFOFF coupon only works with clearance items ending in .99 unfortunately.

  8. Really, camisoles can be found everywhere and usually not in the lengerie selection of the store. With the trend towards layering of tops, chemises are very functional in adding detail such as lace peeking below a t-shirt with out adding bulk.
