Wednesday’s TPS Report: Milly Sleeveless Pencil Dress

by C January 14, 2009 Fashion

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Milly Sleeveless Pencil Dress
Ooooo — seriously cute pencil dress on sale at Pink Mascara. The high neckline is great for the office (nothing’s worse than having to lean across a conference table and realize you weren’t dressed appropriately that day!) and the illusion print is interesting and young. We’d wear it with our trusty set of pearls, and a royal blue or kelly green cardigan if we were in a fun mood that day — or a black cropped sweater blazer if we needed to be more severe. Was $341, now $167. (Use code 20offSale through today to get another 20% off, bringing the price down to $133. Milly Sleeveless Pencil Dress

Poll! What kind of hair accessories are appropriate for the office?

by C January 13, 2009 Accessories

One of the article ideas that people often offer us is to do an article about which hair accessories are appropriate for the office. Yet we’ve always hesitated … well, primarily because we don’t know if anything is appropriate for the office beyond low-ponytail type hairbands. Headbands always seem too prissy / 1980s / wear-in-your-early-20s kind of things. Barrettes seem so middle school. Fanciful bobbypins seem too… Drew-Barrymore-in-the-early-90s. Anything to assist with a bun seems too… ballerina-like. But maybe we’re off base here — what are your thoughts? Any favorite brands or haunts where you find great hair accessories?

Picture above: Feathered Flower Headband, by Bebe, now $49.

As a side note, did anyone see Bride Wars over the weekend? What are your thoughts on Kate Hudson’s hair working in a law office?

Tuesday’s TPS Report: Vera Wang Lavender Label Mosaic Belted Dress

by C January 13, 2009 Fashion

Vera Wang Lavender Label Mosaic Belted DressGenerally, it’s a bad idea to wear a dress that almost requires you to wear a strapless bra to work (or at least wear those plastic bra straps so it looks strapless). Also, in general, we try not to recommend things on final sale — limited sizes, no returns, etc. But this Vera Wang Mosaic dress is so different and interesting we had to call it our TPS Tuesday. A dress made of felt! With felt applique floating on sheer organza! It looks ladylike and lux and professional, all at once. Was $695, now $208. Vera Wang Lavender Label Mosaic Belted Dress

Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Nancy Gonzalez Flat Crocodile Clutch

by C January 12, 2009 Business Etiquette

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Le sigh — we have made far too many trips to Bergdorfs, and actually said to ourselves, ooo! Nancy Gonzalez for less than $2000! This large clutch (almost the size of a magazine) is hand-crafted crocodile (Colombian, in case you were curious), with a croc-covered frame. It is supple, it is exotic, it is gorgeous. It is also still rather pricy — $1610 at Vivre (formerly $2300). Flat Crocodile Clutch by Nancy Gonzalez
