Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.
For today’s TPS, we like this classic brown sheath dress from David Meister, on sale at Nordstrom. It’s form-fitting without being overly sexy, can be paired with a white or beige blazer or cardigan, and can go from day to night without problems. We particularly like the scooped neckline that hits below her collarbone — too high of a neckline can be extraordinarily unflattering. Was $268, now $134. David Meister Jersey Sheath

To me that looks a wee bit too sexy. But perhaps that’s just the model’s 19 inch waist making me think that way. Or else my generational attitudes are showing.
Women have so many more clothing options than men, it’s almost unfair. Although I suppose the sheer dollar amount women must spend on their large and varied wardrobes evens things out a bit.
Could someone with more than 10% body fat look good in this?
Very nice dress, but in a conservative office it’d be just barely over the too-sexy line, because of how form-fitting it is I expect the rear view would be very va-va-voom. Also, if I may, I want to disagree with this: “too high of a neckline can be extraordinarily unflattering”. Lots of well-cut high necklines in the world, and, they’re a great place for a necklace.
Why is it that whenever Corporette posts something remotely form-fitting, its automatically considered too sexy? I mean, we are women… we have breasts and hips and waists. While I wouldn’t want to see cleavage pouring out, in the posted picture, everything is demurely covered, its not that form-fitting, there are sleeves, and the length hits right at the knee. The reason many women come to this blog is that they want to look professional while remaining trendy and feminine. Professional doesn’t have to mean we’re asexual so that we cover up and deny how our bodies look. In fact, I think Corporette is trying to dispel that very belief with this blog.
not too form-fitting? The only thing more form-fitting would be spanx or a wetsuit. It clings to every curve of her body. Men would probably love it, and someone who wears this would show a lot of self-confidence, so it’s not all bad. But it’s risky because many people will think it’s too sexy for a law firm.
Excellent day-to-evening dress. Look around your office and see if this seems to fit in with what other (preferably more senior than you) women are wearing – you might want to wear an unbuttoned cardigan over it at work.
