Thursday’s TPS Report: Brooks Brothers’ Pinstripe Trousers

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Brooks Brothers’ Pinstripe TrousersWe really like these super 110s wool trousers from Brooks Brothers — the way they lay, the spacing of the pinstripes, the Bemberg lining — they just strike us as a beautiful, comfortable, and professional pair of trousers that will last for years.  We particularly like the discount — they were $238, now $95 (but with the automatic discount they come down to $80).   Pinstripe Trousers

  1. I’d wear pants more often if I could find a pair that fit. When considering pants, I have to add in the tailoring cost. Not all women are standard size from head to toe.

  2. comfort first :

where’s the suit of the week?

  3. Anonymous :

can anyone give me some insight into how do brooks brothers’ pants fit compared to BR or jcrew?

  4. Getting pants tailored is pretty normal for men. Most suit pants don’t even come finished. Getting your clothes tailored is just a cost of doing business.

  5. Beware..many BB pants have room for FUPA aka the Ann Taylor Mom pooch area. I’m just saying…you were warned.

  6. Anonymous :

I have these–they are very comfortable and look wonderful!

  7. A lot of stores that sell dress pants will also do simple tailoring (ie, hemming pants) for free when you buy the pants there – ask next time you go. I know I’ve had pants shortened at Ann Taylor and The Limited before.

@ April 9, 2009 at 1:50 pm – I don’t have much experience with J. Crew pants, but I’d say BB and BR are not similar in fit. BB pants, like mj warned, are mom-cut. Probably good if you have a bit of a belly pooch, wider hips, and a somewhat flat ass. I have a size 12 hourglass figure with a flat belly, and while BR pants fit like a dream with little to no tailoring, BB pants require a lot of tailoring and still never look quite right. That said, the quality and fabric of the BB pants are much nicer than BR.
