Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

We had hoped this sweater would be part of the Nordstrom anniversary sale, but alas, it is not. We love, love, love, the print and the flattering pink shade. It’s fun, it’s feminine, but it’s neither Barbie (the black pattern tones down the print) nor goth (imagine the sweater in a dark red). We’d wear it with gray slacks and a black jewel-neck t-shirt beneath, or perhaps over a black sheath dress. Tory Burch ‘Simone’ Merino Wool Cardigan

I mean, know what a Barbie doll is, but what is the look we’re trying to avoid here? Hadn’t heard the word used that way before. Thanks.
Sheesh— people lately have been getting so TOUCHY lately about the Corporette picks! We should keep in mind that women have different tastes, and even those who work in “conservative” workplaces work in environments in which different ranges of clothing are appropriate.
Corporette, thanks much for the service you provide— I for one find it consistently informing and entertaining!
Delta Sierra, ever seen Legally Blonde? I assume that’s the look Corporette is referring to.
I dont think it is people being touchy, rather, it’s a bunch of women giving feedback on items that C suggests. Personally, I love the discourse. If I love an item selected, I still like to hear what others think of it– its just like shopping with friends!
Amanda – is it my comment you’re responding to? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to sound ornery. I’d first left a comment liking the sweater, but asking what Barbie meant, in that context, but it isn’t appearing here on my screen. One of the reasons I read Corporette is that I know how to dress to suit myself, that’s easy, of course. But I do want to be aware of how it looks to other people – too frumpy, too cheesy, too whatever. Then I can adjust my look – or not – depending on where I’m going to be wearing it.
V: Legally Blonde, thank you, I see exactly what you mean.
I think this sweater has real potential, but the styling is the photos is a little bit weird. Over a black dress, though – yes!
I was thinking about ordering this – but in the zoom, the pattern looks dark brown rather than black. How sure are we that this is black?
