Wow — beautiful jacket from Nanette Lepore. The bright, happy color (which still strikes us as autumnal) is gorgeous, and the ruffles, poufed shoulders, and tulip hem are slight enough that the jacket doesn’t scream “TRENDY!”. We’d wear it with grays and navys — trousers, sheath dresses, even A-line skirts. It is a bit of a splurge, though: $448 at Nordstrom’s, in sizes 2-12. Nanette Lepore ‘If You Leave’ Jacket

Wow, very unusual, and I like the asymmetrical lapels and closure. I wonder how this would look on someone with a significantly bigger cup size than this model, though …

Ugh. I guess I’m in the minority of people who thinks this looks hideous. To me, the asymmetrical lapels, the off-center button, the ruffled flare in the back, and the fly-away torso all but embody the definition of “trendy”. I think it looks unattractive, to boot…as if its wearer drunkenly dragged her old sewing machine out of the closet and did something rather unfortunate to grandma’s perfectly good electric blanket.
Blech.
I’m with you, Sarah; I don’t dislike it as much as you seem to but it sure seems to me to scream “trendy”, it’s the kind of thing that will be really apparent when you wear it so you can’t wear it that often… plus that big screaming triangle of exposed white belly might not exactly play to my strengths :-), I’d need to wear it over a monochromatic something to get away with it at all I think

It’s a little too busy for me. With a less striking color, or without the ruffle at the collar, I would like it. I do like the shape of the jacket and the seaming. It doesn’t look unprofessional, exactly, but it does have that “look at me” aspect that I personally do not want to have in my clothes.
I recently bought a jacket cut like this (in black), and I find that it goes with very few skirts and pants. It almost has to have its own dedicated bottom part. The cut is cute and flattering, though. (Mine has bracelt sleeves.)
I feel like this jacket would work better in a different color. It’s not flattering on the model and what color shirt/dress could you wear under it but white? If you don’t have a perfect tummy, the white would just draw unwanted attention to that area. I feel like black would give it too much of a Flight of the Bumblebee kind of look. At least if it were a color that paired well with darker colors, I feel like it would be easier to incorporate into a wardrobe.
It comes in other colors at other stores. It comes in black and I believe I’ve seen it in purple. I think it’s highly inappropriate for a conservative office, however.

Not only must you have a flat tummy, but you also need a less curvy rear end. Look at those ruffles on the back? That said, I love the elements on this jacket, but I think there are too many for one jacket. You could separate them out and make 3 unique, cute, and more wearable jackets.
I cannot think of a single situation in which having a “less curvy rear” is a good thing.
Love the jacket – ruffles, asymmetrical lapels, and all. It’s more than I want to spend when it is already so cold and a blazer needs to cover more real estate, but I do think it’s lovely.
For what it’s worth, it’s Nordstrom, not Nordstrom’s.

Glad I’m not the only neurotic one!! The ‘s works for Neiman’s because the full name is Neiman Marcus, but you wouldn’t say “available at J.Crew’s”.
I think this is cute and would wear it with gray slacks, although I would would love it a lot more if I had the budget to spend $450 on a jacket that’s too memorable to be more than a “once in awhile” piece!
I love this, and I love when this site suggests pieces that are not the typical plain black blazer or gray sheath dress.
I think it’s adorable, but I’d wear it like the model is: with a white t-shirt and jeans tucked into boots, preferable while I’m strolling the Tuileries in late October. Le sigh.
Not for me, but I have coworker who would love it. She has a long neck and a smaller chest. I, however, have neither. would work great for Friday’s around here. It is a color I am not sold on, but I have one blouse in this color that I get a LOT of compliments on when I where it.
On a side note, as I was checking out our local clerk’s office workers today and wondering what sets me (attorney) apart from them from them as far as professional attire, I decided it comes down to heels/nice professional shoes and a nice fitted jacket/blazer. Otherwise, we are all just wearing a shell and dress pants. So, I like the suggestions for “everyday” blazers, as opposed to full on suits as well (suit of the week).

Am I the only one who is disappointed to see the return of shoulder pads this year? Did we not learn from the ’80′s?!
Shoulder pads come, and shoulder pads go, then they come back again. Same with waist heights. For a few years they’re low, then they come up again. How else can the next generation make euw-face about what their mom’s wore when they were young? How else can the fashion houses sell us a bunch of new jackets when the old ones are perfectly good, but are now out of fashion? They gotta get us out there buying new stuff.
As for the yellow jacket, love it, but would only wear it over a plain dress. Shirt-and-skirt convergence showing in that inverted V gap = too much going on in one place.
I love, love, love it, but Nanette isn’t kind to those of us who are working with more than a B cup.
I would go with the honey colored jacket now in stock at Talbots. The color is similar but it is a more classic style and fit while a bold color. It is more wearable and professional-looking than this jacket. Just my 2 cents.
