I've been searching everywhere for fashionable rainy/cold weather boots and I'm so glad to see this thread. I'm still getting used to having a rainy winter season (I'm originally from FL) so it's been a challenge finding work-appropriate, inclimate weather clothes and shoes. Thanks for all of the great suggestions! Another reason why I love this site!

Ah, La Canadienne. It's a brand from Montreal, where women really know how to rock their black leather boots, fitted winter coats and perfectly draped scarves. (It makes sense -- it's cold, and they're French!)

I am in NYC and the weather is nippy. Boots are everywhere. I am not liking the look of high heeled boots with skirts. They look wobbly and unbalanced. Pretty, stylish short boots can look great with skirt suits, but please connect the skirt and the boots with the right shade of hose. If possible, keep the boot color going on up the leg for a smooth, long-legged effect.

At the risk of incurring lawchic's wrath - having become completely obsessed with my fitflops this summer, I just bought the fitflop boots for the winter commute. And I can't make myself take them off. I wear them under my desk (I am wearing them as I type!) - I do change out of them if I need to leave my office. I put them on for good after 7pm or so. No, they are not pretty, and usually I am a complete shoe freak, but suddenly I am in love with these ugly boots. This summer, I ended up wearing the fitflops constantly beause I could walk all over town in them and never get a blister, never get tired feet. Supposedly they help your posture and muscle tone as well, can't vouch to that because I started regular pilates at the same time as I got into the fitflops (posture is definitely better now). You can get them at the bliss spa website, not sure where else they are sold.

I practice in Chicago now, but my first job as a lawyer was in Maine--people did wear their Bean boots into court, some changed shoes before stepping up, others did not. Some days we were so happy counsel had made it through the ice and snow, it did not matter what he or she was wearing.

In addition to the classic Bean boots, they have a few new knee high ones this year including a shearling lined knee high Bean boot that I have already requested from Santa. If you are looking for something that is warm and dry (and that will last forever), then look into Beans.

I'd like to vouch for the warmth and waterproof bona fides of the Santana Canada boots. I had two pairs (one brown, one black) that carried me through six new england winters (and two in D.C.). They're terrific products. They seem to have different styles now than the ones I had previously, but I have a tall pair now that are my go-to boots for cold rainy D.C. winter. And I think some are nice enough to wear with skirts. Here are some styles.
