Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
Elizabeth and James Edwardian BlazerHappy Splurge Monday!  Today, we’re liking this great wool blazer from Elizabeth and James.  We like the pleat detail at the hem and at the shoulders, as well as the simple, functional pockets at the hip.  We’d wear it with colors other than black — perhaps dark purple trousers and a gray cashmere tee beneath it.  It’s $420 at ShopBop, available in sizes 0 through 10.  Elizabeth and James Edwardian Blazer

That is one confused looking model.

Nice jacket, though!

Sorry to hijack, but here is a question:

The Times has a story today about a Netflix-like dress rental program (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/09/technology/09runway.html?em). It suggests that in many big cities, there are already places to rent evening gowns. I thought this was a good thing to learn, but I’ve run a few searches for gown rental places in NYC and haven’t come up with much. Does anyone know whether I am simply running bad searches / can anyone recommend more old-fashioned dress rental places (i.e., go into store, try on a dress)?

Didn’t read the article, maybe it’s the same place. But this place does online rentals AND in-store. The boutique is on Elizabeth St., in Nolita. Enjoy!

Rosie, maybe these places are not online? I have run into the same thing in my search for preschools (eg places with no websites, etc.). Search NY mag or another NY site?

Cute blazer! Not sure about the puffed sleeves for those of us with broad shoulders though! :)

Nice jacket! On the click-through, it makes me wonder, though … if the sleeves are too long on that already 6 foot tall model, what it will be like for the rest of us. But a nice pick for fall, as it can serve as both outer-jacket and blazer.

Maybe it’s just me, but the sleeves on just about every jacket I purchase are too long (I am 5’3). I always just get them altered.

Likewise. Hard to tell if the model just has a thick torso and short neck, or the jacket is unflattering. I also have hard time not thinking of Olsens when I look at their clothing. They are cute, but definitely not the image I am going for when dressing for work.

Maybe it’s my computer monitor, but it’s hard to get a feel for this online. The detailing is hard to see and the models are getting in the way, so this jacket must be all about the fit and material…

Jacket is a little hard to see in the pic, but lines look nice. I have a concern about dark purple trousers. Fo some reason, very few colors actaully look good south of the beltline on pants. Edwardian suggests velvet to me. Perhaps the bottom part of the ensemble should be velveteen or fine wale corduroy. Some of this year’s corduroys are ultra fine-wale and very pretty – and washable.

I have the same reaction to the purple trousers suggestion. I only wear neutral-colored trousers, e.g. chocolate brown, black, grey. Am I behind the times?

I know! My first thought was “and where would I even *find* purple trousers”? Cute blazer though!

I know how you feel… all my pants are neutral, and even then I pretty much always wear the black ones. I’d do a purple sweater, but not purple pants. (and hey Corporette, I even have purple shoes!)
