Open Thread: Victory at the Sales Racks?

in Fashion, Sales

All right, ladies, it’s time to gloat a bit. We’ve heard some great stories from friends of amazing sales — so share! What are you most excited about getting in the after-holiday sales? Where did you have the best shopping experience (racks and racks of sales, additional discounts, or just a really nice shopping experience)? (Pictured:  Sale in a Sale Shop Selling Sale Signs, originally uploaded to Flickr by the justified sinner)

(We’d share our own story but, alas, we’ve just moved into a new apartment and spent the post-holiday time unpacking, organizing, and hunting for new furniture pieces.)

i had the best online shopping experience at Outnet. They are great shippers, very quick and the discounts are amazing. Bought most of my gifts there! We just compiled some other great sales and promos here:

I’m pretty happy with how I did. A $54 suit from JNY, but my best haul was from Talbots. A coat I’ve been lusting after for months marked down from almost $400 to just over $200, two suits (one with skirt and pants), a scarf, a t-shirt, and a silk shell, all for roughly $700. Talbots hasn’t hit the really crazy 70% off stage yet, but I find that I can’t find suits (bottoms and tops) to go together when it does. So, when it hits 70%, I’ll stock up on sweaters, blouses, shells, and separates. I love year end sales! All my loot should arrive in the mail today!

Ooh, and I almost forgot – some great buys at endless earlier in December thanks to Corporette! Including my new LeSportSac weekender, that I LOVE!

I just bought a $250 Magaschoni cashmere turtleneck at Overstock.com for $83, with $1 shipping. The same one is on sale at Neiman’s for $125. I’d call that a great deal on a year-round staple!

And I loved JNY’s sale, I bought three shells. Dept. store quality at Target prices.

Longchamp small Pliage sac a main in limited edition LM print, cream on black with black leather trim, $38 at Saks, down from original $129. Perfect for summer!

I also hit the Talbot’s sale, but would characterize the yield as only fair — two pairs of the side-zip bi-stretch pants (one of the few styles that fits me without hemming), a pair of dressy wool blend pants, a weekend ribbed cardi-type sweater, a beaded tank (that goes with my evening tuxedo), a long sleeved t and one of the pleated cardis came to about $350 total after I used my birthday discount. The inventory on hand seemed a lot more limited than prior years, with far fewer jackets, shells, and accessories marked down and pretty much no skirts or dresses of any type to be had.

Bloomingdale’s extra 50% sale got me two pairs of shoes–a Kate Spade and a Calvin Klein–for about $120. I can only hope to see sales so good again in my lifetime.

Three Kristin Davis dresses for 22.00 each (retail $158.00 each), a Maggie London cocktail dress for 12.00, and another work dress for $20 from Belk. I’m pleased!

Amen to that! I typically shop the sale on-line. You don’t have to go digging through bins, there’s better color/style selection, and a better selection for the larger sizes (the stores don’t always carry the widest selection of bigger sizes). I got a few bras, matching panties, a few nighties, and a pair of pants all for around $150.

I noticed the Talbots in my town had a small handful of customers at the post-holiday sale, while the J. Crew was so packed there was a line for the dressing room, and stuff was flying off the shelves. I guess if I were buying stock, I’d go for J. Crew . . .

I was in Brooks Brothers buying my husband his traditional Christmas underwear. I picked up totally gorgeous eggplant colored suede bag. Put it back when I saw the $400 price tag. The salewoman “kindly” informed me that it was 50% off starting the day after Christmas with an additional 15% for some other reason (I wasn’t listening as I was doing the math in my head). I handed over the credit card and she put it aside. I just picked it up and it even has it’s own BB storage bag!!! Total $182.

A deep red pencil skirt from the Limited. Normally $60. Was on clearance for more than 50% off and I had a “rewards” coupon (I’m a cardholder) for $15. Grand total: about $6.25. Now I just need an excuse to wear it.

Getting about $1,000 full price worth of clothes from Banana Republic for about $300. 30% off sales price and another 15% for opening a card. Half price boots from Cole Haan that I will wear for the next 20 years. Two pairs of bandolino heels for $20 each from Macy’s. I love Dec. 26 shopping!

*Sigh* I’m jealous of all your great finds! Right now we are in Arcadia, FL and I think it is safe to say that there is more and better shopping on that part of the moon where NASA found water than in Arcadia.

Arcadia, FL?! I know it! I live in Tampa Bay and my father worked briefly in Arcadia. It really is in the middle of nowhere! Hope you find your way to some place with much better shopping prospects!

The most amazing pair of brown Coach boots. Not really work appropriate, but still beautiful. And for 60% off. Bought in store and was really tempted to get the black too even though I don’t know what I would wear them with. They are just so pretty, really nice leather – none of that cheesy “c” stuff on them anywhere – and such a great deal. I will have these for a long time.
