Coffee Break: Gwen Necklace

by C February 16, 2010 Fashion

We’ve been huge fans of Erin Gallagher’s stuff for a while, and keep meaning to get a necklace or some earrings from her. We love that most pieces can be customized to include various stones, and that you often have a choice between gold or silver chains and hardware. Lovely stuff. We’ve customized a “Gwen” necklace to include a hammered silver chain and rutile quartz (it would be $75 at checkout). Gwen necklace

Splurge Tuesday’s TPS Report: 7 For All Mankind Shrunken Blazer

by C February 16, 2010 Fashion

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

7 For All Mankind Shrunken BlazerWe love a good shrunken blazer, and Piperlime has a ton of them in stock right now. We like this gray one from 7 For All Mankind — we like the fit of it, the notched lapel, and the seaming in the back. We’d wear it with just about anything, from a full skirt to a shift dress to a pair of trousers — and we feel like the gray is more conducive to a fun color palette than a black blazer would be, either using bold color or going for a sophisticated black-on-gray-on-white look. It’s $275 at Piperlime, in sizes XS-L. 7 For All Mankind Shrunken Blazer

Holiday Weekend Open Thread

by C February 12, 2010 Fashion

Happy V-Day’s to all — we’ll see you Tuesday, after the President’s Day holiday. In the meantime — something on your mind? Chat about it here.

Recommended weekend wear: We’ve owned a lot of workout pants over the years, but some of our favorites are the C9 pants we got at Target, similar to these. Furthermore, they’ve got a great deal going on — save 25% when you spend $75 in Women’s (plus free shipping). They’re $20 at Target, in sizes up to XXL. C9 by Champion Fitted Bootcut Pant

We’ll open the weekend thread with an emergency question from a reader where we have NO idea what to advise…

Tomorrow I have a “home visit” for my background check for a federal job. It didn’t occur to me till today that I have no idea what to wear. This isn’t an interview (I already met with the hiring committee). I’m thinking dressy business casual – a sweater jacket and nice pants.

This sounds good to us — although perhaps you should just suck it up and wear a suit. After all, you’ll be switching to jeans or something more comfortable as soon as they leave anyway, right? But we really have no experience with federal background checks — readers who do, please weigh in.

Bargain Friday’s TPS Report: Cashmere V-Neck Sweater

by C February 12, 2010 Fashion

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

We’ve heard great reports on Ann Taylor’s cashmere this season, so this sale is too good to pass up — a variety of colors and sizes, in petites and regular, with lots of cashmere sweaters. Our personal preference is always for the v-neck, and we like this one a lot, as it is not too low, not too high, and has regular-length sleeves. It was $145, now marked $69, with an additional 40% brings it down to $41.40. (Use code SPRING40 to take 40% off a full-priced item while you’re there.) Cashmere V-Neck Sweater

Coffee Break: Links and Locks Hobo

by C February 11, 2010 Fashion

We are loving this simple hobo bag. We like the classic, slightly old-school vibe to it, as well as the chain detailing on the strap. It comes in mushroom, black, coral, and evergreen — and all seem to be selling out fast on Endless. It’s $268 (at the moment it’s also part of a special offer that allows you to take $25 off the purchase). Calvin Klein Links and Locks Hobo,Mushroom
