For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
Today we’re liking this suit by Andy The-Anh, despite a few hesitations. First, the good — the trousers are perfectly flared, and the way the jacket nips in is absolutely gorgeous. We like the proportions in general, and we love the gray. The only thing that slightly throws us for a loop is the extra white fabric on the jacket and on the pants pockets — it looks great with the poplin blouse, but we’re not sure we can picture it with another color. This is a type of tricky design which to me does not look very professional. It sorts of hints at 1930′s movies and Joan Blondell sitting in an office in an old movie. How Hollywood loved thopse little touches or frill and trim. It is so good to buy suits wherein both the top and the bottom part can be worn with something else!
I love the suit and the fitted shape of it, but for the hefty price of the suit, I would want to be able to wear with something other than white (maybe black?), and i fear that the white stripe is going to be limiting… But otherwise, lovely selection.
I agree — For that much money I want a suit that I can get a lot of versatile use from … and the wide leg trousers are a style that go in and out of style pretty quickly
Not so sure the “trousers are perfectly flared” — to me, that’s way too much of a flare. But I love the fabric and the jacket.

Wouldn’t the white on the jacket look good against a black tee underneath? The jacket button is black, so I would imagine that would look okay. I am pretty boring and tend to wear very little under my suits that’s not black or white anyway. I LOVE the cut of the pants.
A beautiful selection, just not practical enough for the hefty price tag, in my humble opinion. The white piping limits what could have otherwise been a versatile solid gray suit. Last year I bought a navy suit with some white piping on the pockets and on the lapel of the jacket; I quickly learned after my purchase that I’d be limited to wearing that suit with white button-downs (booooring!). The flare looks good on the model but I’d want to try it on to make sure it wasn’t too much for my petite frame.
Oops, correction: I thought the suit was gray, but the Neiman Marcus description calls it “black mixed tweed”.
Oh wow, I love it. At 40 I kind of feel entitled to wear a statement suit like that. I never mix the pieces of my suits so the fact I couldn’t wear this with anything else wouldn’t bother me. All that said, I can’t afford it.
Hate the two-tone jacket, yecch.

Thread hijack – anyone have good recommendations for where to find a lightweight coat (work appropriate) for those tricky transition weeks/months? I live in a place where it is getting too warm for my wool, knee-length coats, but not yet warm enough to go without. I need something polished and professional but lightweight (not a raincoat, either). Any suggestions on where to look? I’d prefer something long-ish (doesn’t have to be knee length, but below my hips) and relatively plain (no big ruffles etc) so that it is super versatile.

I have a Burberry all-weather coat that I wear for just this purpose. Perfect and classic — never fails me. And, even though you said “not a raincoat,” it will work for that purpose as well.
I bought a Burberry trench with my first grown-up-lawyer paycheck. It cost almost as much as my rent but I’ve never regretted it in 9 years. It’s perfect for in-between temperatures.

Burberry’s quilted jackets are a lightweight casual alternative. Again, timeless.

It’s great in the rain and isn’t too heavy. For those days where it’s chilly in the morning and warms up later, I just add a scarf in the morning.
I have a Michael Kors one (just like this one above) that I got from Off Fifth, and I absolutely LOVE it. I agree that it’s perfect with a pashmina scarf on chilly mornings. (I live in the Mid-Atlantic region.) Mine has a belt, so it flatters a narrow waist-line.
The Today Show is doing a piece on spring jackets today. Maybe check online for some brands/etc.
I have a classic London Fog trench that I purchased at Burlington Coat Factory for $99, years ago. They still sell them.
I have a great khaki classic trench coat from London Fog that I love and wear during the fall/spring months when it’s too hot for my wool coat, but a little chilly during my morning commute. The trench is basic and timeless and it goes with anything. I’ve had mine for a few years now and it’s holding up well. After buying a suit from them last winter, I will never buy another suit from anywhere else. For me, cut is just as important as the fabric. Tropical wool is unbeatable in versatility, and Bluesuit’s owner personally designs all their products. But honestly, what really sets these suits apart was the fact that the day after I placed my order, I got a call making sure I got the correct sizes. So awesome.
This suit reminds me a lot of the suits that Victoria’s Secret offers. I know that lots of people probably just rolled their eyes – but I have found their suits to be the best of both worlds – professional enough (if you opt for a “real” shirt rather than a bra, obviously) and inexpensive (I was able to get a suit + matching pencil skirt + french cuff shirt for under $200). I think the suit featured here is fine for those that can afford it – but I’d rather have 5 different suits for the same price.
