Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Topper Jacket

by Kat August 23, 2010 Fashion

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Donna Karan Topper JacketIn keeping with our apparent newfound love for electric purple (seriously, no idea why but we are seeing it everywhere for fall!) we like this textured wool jacket from Donna Karan. We like that it’s big enough to fit over a suit jacket, if need be, but it will also look amazing with a little black dress. There’s something about the billowy softness that is relaxing without being messy. It’s $2295 at Bergdorf Goodman. Donna Karan Topper Jacket

Weekend Open Thread

by Kat August 20, 2010 Fashion

Michael Antonio Women's Matteo PumpSomething on your mind? Chat about it here.

For weekend wear, the farthest we might venture into the “peep-toe bootie” trend is this Matteo pump (which even then is technically not a bootie). We like the fact that it’s beige (elongates the legs), has a platform (easier to walk in) and dips down in the front (far more flattering than a straight across-the-ankle look). The price is pretty reasonable, too — $71.95 at Endless. It’s also available in black, turquoise, and tan. Michael Antonio Women’s Matteo Pump

Louis Vuitton Epi Leather Alma bag- Fashionista picked their “classic 5 handbags” — which then prompted some outrage on our Facebook page. We’re not sure what would be on our list, but probably the Longchamp Pliage as well as our beloved Louis Vuitton Epi Alma bag (pictured; available at Louis Vuitton for $1310). (We know, we know, the Speedy is probably more popular, but we’ve never felt like you can fit enough stuff in that bag, or carry it comfortably.) Readers, what would be your investment-worthy handbags?

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Swag Pencil Skirt
iconToday, we like this simple cotton/spandex pencil skirt. We like that it’s machine washable, and that the chains and bow details at the belt are removable if they’re not your thing. The skirt was $88, and is now $49.99 at White House|Black Market (all sizes available as of this AM). Swag Pencil Skirt

Coffee Break: Saba Necklace

by Kat August 19, 2010 Accessories

Adesso Saba Necklace in RedThis strikes us as an amazing alternative to a classic 16″ pearl necklace — love the color, and the pop of blue — and there’s something nice about being able to answer the question “what IS that made of” with “vintage red Ethiopian ‘tomato’ glass, Bali silver & sapphire nugget.” We’d wear it with a white button-front blouse and, perhaps, a gray blazer to the office; we also might play with a contrasting color and try it with a purple shirt. It’s $632 at RevolveClothing.com. Adesso Saba Necklace in Red

Poll of the Day: Will You Wear a Peep-Toe Bootie to Work?

by Kat August 19, 2010 Fashion

So I have been seeing the peep-toe bootie every.where this season, usually styled with skirts or cropped pants. And I always think the same thing — “Cute! But definitely in that ‘I’m-so-hip-I-don’t-need-to-wear-flattering-clothes way.’” You know, like harem pants and those huuuge 80s-ish glasses that some kids wear. The peep-toe bootie trend also strikes me as completely inappropriate for the conservative office, at least when worn with skirts. (Pictured: Sam Edelman ‘Wakefield’ Wedge Bootie, available at Nordstrom for $199.95.)

But then I started wondering — is my gut reaction shared by others? After all, peep toes have come a long way, baby…

Readers, what are your thoughts? Which newish trends will you be trying at the office this year?
