Coffee Break: Poppin Kitten Heel

by Kat February 22, 2011 Fashion

AK Anne Klein Poppin Kitten heels are either the “hot new trend” or the “classic that’s back in style,” depending on your point of view. Personally, I love kitten heels for the office, particularly with pants — with a low enough heel, you can even wear the same pants you wear with flats. Anne Klein has a number of shoes on sale today, including this fabric-covered kitten heel with a fun button detail on the toe. It’s available in the black fabric as well as a bronze — was $79.99, now $49.99. Poppin Kitten Heel

Splurge Tuesday’s TPS Report: Checked cotton and wool-blend blazer

by Kat February 22, 2011 Fashion

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Alice + Olivia Checked=Happy Tuesday! Let’s ignore the full mini-skirt (sadly, a trend that may be coming back) and instead focus on the blazer. Love the slight peak to the shoulders, the single button, and the springy vibe. It’s the kind of thing that you can wear simply (white, good quality t-shirt or silk sweater beneath, perhaps with some beige trousers), with a lot of personality on display (such as with a “clashing floral print,” as Net-a-Porter recommends), or perhaps even into fall (perhaps with a burnt orange shell and black pants). Lovely. It’s $395 at Net-a-Porter. Alice + Olivia Checked cotton and wool-blend blazer

Seen a great piece you’d like to recommend? Please e-mail editor@corporette.com with “TPS” in the subject line.

Weekend Open Thread

by Kat February 18, 2011 Weekend Open Thread

ASICS - Quad Short (Tiger Lily/Tiger Lily) - ApparelSomething on your mind? Chat about it here.

I don’t know about you, but I haaaate paying full price for work-out clothes. Fortunately, 6pm has a ton of it on sale today. Lots of it is lucky sizes only, but it’s still a great sale worth checking out — lots of items are up to 75% off. I like these simple, colorful shorts from ASICS – a bright color (or a funny t-shirt or the like) always makes a workout just that little bit more appealing. These are marked to $15 (were $38) at 6pm. ASICS – Quad Short (Tiger Lily/Tiger Lily) – Apparel

Fashion Week Fun With My Windows Phone!

by Kat February 18, 2011 Admin

Samsung FocusA huge thank you to Windows Phone for giving me a Samsung Focus to play with during Fashion Week! I loved being able to Tweet, take pictures (and send them to Twitter), and check my Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, and horoscope while waiting in line after line at the shows. To be honest, those few things kept me busy enough that I didn’t play much in the app store, but I have heard great things about the FitTracker App, as well as Bitbop (for TV), and Flux (for RSS feeds). I’ll miss the huge touch screen and how much fun it was to navigate around the phone. Don’t forget that you can still enter to win a Windows Phone! You have until February 28th to enter.

I’m going to try to put my thoughts about Fashion Week into a more concise form over the weekend — so many thoughts whirling around my head!

Full disclosure: Windows Phone is a sponsor of Corporette.

Weekly News Update

by Kat February 18, 2011 News

Liking these posts? Follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook — this is the edited version of what we’re reading! (We also Tweet if we hear about a good sale through our CorporetteDeals Twitter feed.)

- Wow: the ABA picks up a tidbit from a WSJ article about a lawyer in her mid-20s who wears “outlandish” high-end designers to court. In related news, I am now obsessed with this $11,675 McQueen jacket (pictured) (but no, not for the office).

- What does workwear look like across the job spectrum? Already Pretty asked a few different bloggers (including me!) the question.

- Anita Bruzzese has some suggestions for how to talk to a company VIP.

- Do women “network” — or “self-promote”? Jezebel looks at the perception difference.

- Interesting: Politico talks about the Senate Women’s Dinner Club and their “civility” pact.

- Finally: Learnvest has a great chart that answers that age-old question: when is it worth it to buy organic?
