Deal Alert: ShopBop’s Big Tiered Sale!

ShopBop’s big tiered sale is here (formerly known as their “Big Event sale”). As we’ve noted in the past, this is a great sale to stock up on some of those workwear classics that NEVER go on sale — and the more you spend, the more you save. Some details: use code GOBIG17 for 15% off orders of $200+, 20% off orders of $500+, and 25% off orderes of $800+ — it’s valid on full-price and sale items. This is a great chance to get some pieces from classic accessories brands, including Ferragamo, LK Bennett, Rebecca MinkoffTory Burch, Claire V, and Hunter. (I particularly love their jewelry collection — it’s always hip and interesting.) Note that because ShopBop is owned by Amazon, Prime shipping is available (they have a general 3-day free shipping policy though); returns are free.  The sale ends March 7.

Some of my favorite pieces for work and the weekend are below; a few general brands to look for include TheoryDiane von Furstenberg, Black Halo, Equipment, and Smythe (so many colors of their super popular blazer, pictured at top!).  For the weekend, great selection of denim — some of the most-loved denim we rounded up recently is part of the sale, including jeans from Paige, Frame, AG (high-rise and cigarette), these boyfriend jeans from Citizens of Humanity.

I did a whole roundup of some of my top picks, but it looks like the blogging tool I used is having technical issues at the moment… yay! Hopefully it’ll come up sooner rather than later — in the meantime, the links above should get you started. Lots of great things to buy in the sale, from basic to fun — and VERY easy to get to the 25% off stage and snag the discount on things that never go on sale.

Coffee Break: Audra Loafer

These loafers come in medium and wide sizes 5.5–11, and they’re very highly rated at Nordstrom. Lots of women seem to really like them, and in fact they’re among the most highly rated loafers there. We’re picturing the “luggage,” but there’s also a really lovely grape red as well as neutral colors like black, rice yellow, cream white, and a blush they’re calling “cipria.” I like the sort of gentle point and I like how they’re a happy medium between very sleek, pointed-toe loafers and very casual, driving-slipper kind of shoes. They’re at a great price, too. They’re $89 at Zappos and also available at Nordstrom and Lord & TaylorMe Too Audra Loafer

Tuesday’s Workwear Report: Jewel Wrap Dress

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

It’s great to see that Diane von Furstenberg has a ton of dresses on sale right now, including this pretty one. I really like the colors and how it has a fuller skirt than a lot of the wrap dresses — plus, huzzah for pockets! This one was $568 and is now $284, and most sizes are still in stock. Note that there are many others also in the $285-and-under range, so if you’re looking for a new wrap dress do check out DVF. Jewel Wrap Dress

Here’s a more affordable wrap dress and another in plus sizes.

Coffee Break: Baroque Hoop Huggie Set

Shopbop just added lots of new markdowns to their sale, which includes this set of four earrings. They look like a great basic, and the two pairs are different sizes, so if you happen to have double-pierced ears it could make for a cool look, or else it would be nice to pair them with your outfits as you like. We’re featuring the rose gold, but they’re also available in silver-plated and gold-plated. These were originally $100 at Shopbop but are now marked down to $70. You can get free shipping with Amazon Prime — and free returns too. Luv AJ Baroque Hoop Huggie Set

The Best Affordable Cashmere For Work

affordable cashmere for workSure, we all know what basics professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn into the ground, it can be a pain to find exactly the right incarnation in stores. In “The Hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have.

Which are your favorite affordable cashmere sweaters for work, ladies? Which ones do you reach for, for warmth, style, or comfort — and which have held up after laundering or dry cleaning? We haven’t talked about this in a while, and cashmere sales are starting (Neiman Marcus, Uniqlo, Lord & Taylor, and Nordstrom all have some crazy markdowns right now) — so let’s discuss.

Before we get to our featured cashmere sweaters for work for today, let’s talk about some greatest hits:

Splurge Monday’s Workwear Report: Tie-Neck Long-Sleeve Blouse

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I absolutely love the pink coat that’s featured as part of this outfit, but at $11,000 for a frayed coat, it’s even a bit much for me. Instead we’re featuring this $1,490 hammered silk blouse (actually a viscose/silk blend). I’ve seen a lot of pussy bow or tie-neck blouses lately (and Melania Trump got a lot of press for the pussy bow blouse she wore to a debate), and they’re definitely having a moment. I haven’t seen this kind of to-the-side look and I really like it; it kind of reminds me of some of Veronica Palmer’s blouses in Better Off Ted and would look interesting under a suit. Tie-Neck Long-Sleeve Blouse (scroll down)

A couple of other asymmetrical tie-neck blouses with slightly lower prices are here and here. This one is significantly less expensive, as is this one in plus sizes.
