Workwear Hall of Fame: Paulina Leather Pump

We’ve included this pump from Trotters in a number of our roundups of the best low heels, but I don’t think we’ve ever highlighted it in its own post. I love this black python-print leather, the short 1.75″ heel, and the classic kitten heel look. It comes in 10 colors and five (!) widths at Nordstrom for $99-$109 and is also available at Zappos and Amazon. It’s got great reviews at all three sites! Paulina Leather Pump

2017 Update: We’re adding this heel to our Workwear Hall of Fame! Nordstrom, Amazon and Zappos all carry the shoe in a TON of colors, and it’s winning rave reviews everywhere.

How to Wear Heels (If You’re Used to Flats)

How to Start Wearing Heels | Corporette

2017 Update: We still stand by this advice on how to wear heels if you’re used to flats – links have also been updated.

How can you wear heels, if you’re used to flats? Which are the best first heels to buy? How do you make the transition smoothly and effectively? Reader J wonders:

I have always been a flat, practical shoe kind of person with some style. For example, Merrill boots in the winter. But, I am really trying to increase my presence in the world and have read that shoes with more lift indicate more power, money, etc. How do I find higher shoes that won’t kill my feet after all these years of being practical? Advice appreciated!

I’m curious to hear what readers say here. We’ve talked about the best brands for comfortable heels, specific ways to make heels more comfy, and how to look professional in flats (even how to wear flats to court), but I have a few more thoughts on this:

The Hunt: Low Heels

Valentino 'Rockstud' Metal Heel Pump

2016 Update: Check out our most recent discussion and roundup of comfortable black pumps; we also did a specific roundup of low heels for work in 2015. .

Sure, we all know what basics professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn into the ground, it can be a pain to find exactly the right incarnation in stores. In “The Hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have.

One of the most frequent requests I get from readers is to feature lower heeled options, so I thought I’d do a round-up today of some of the most classically beautiful heels you can get with a height of less than 2.5 inches (trying to focus on 2″ and less because that’s really my own definition of a low heel).  Some of the ones that I’ve mentioned in various posts and not mentioned here include the gorgeous Kate Spade Simon pump, the Joan & David Gila pump, as well as bunch of mini wedges such as ones from Halogen, Madewell, and Cole Haan Readers, what is your ideal heel height?  For those of you who prefer lower heeled pumps, which brands do you swear by?
