iconWe like this colorful top from Nordstrom’s Halogen line. The vertical stripes are flattering, and the purple is subdued but youthful. We’d wear it with gray slacks and a black cardigan or cropped jacket. It’s $48 at Nordstrom.com. Halogen Print Surplice Tee

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Women: Vena Cava printed khaki dress - motorcross khaki
For those with champagne taste but a beer budget, the flush of designer collaborations over the last few years with lower-priced stores (Target, H&M, etc) has been a godsend. Gap’s latest designer collection is getting rave reviews and is entirely available online. Take, for example, the dress at right, designed by finalists of the 2008 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai of Vena Cava. It’s a simple cotton dress with a bold tribal print. It’s not for everyone, but then, most designer clothes aren’t. It’s $88 at Gap. Women: Vena Cava printed khaki dress – motorcross khaki

iconWe like this breezy dress for a casual day at the office. The color is vibrant without being offensive, and the draped neckline, sleeves, and pleats in the skirt all look ladylike without being too prissy. We’d wear it with nude pumps and a white or black blazer if we were cold. $118 at Nordstrom. Donna Morgan Button Detail Jersey Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.
Kate Spade - Cybill (Plum Suede) - Footwear
The best deals usually come from buying classic pieces in their off season. Take, for example, this gorgeous pair of heels by Kate Spade. We love the two inch heel, the multiple 5-star comfort ratings at Zappos, and the vibrant purple suede (as we’ve discussed numerous times, a great way to spice up a navy, black, or gray outfit). And they’re 40% off at Zappos with lots of sizes and colors left? Sold. They’re $157 (were $282). Kate Spade – Cybill (Plum Suede) – Footwear

Bargain Friday’s TPS Report: Gap’s Shirred Cardigan

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Women: Shirred cardigan - true black knit

We’re loving the shape of this classic short-sleeved cardigan. It’s the details that stand out — the shirring at the neck, the curve of the neckline, and the way the sleeves hit your elbows — perfect. We’d wear this on a brutally hot day to cover a sleeveless tank or dress. Was $50, now on sale at the Gap in a variety of colors, sizes, and prices. (The black is currently $44.) iconThis top has a lot of elements we normally would not like for the office — chiffon (in the delicate twisted colored bits at the top), a pre-bloused shape, and a tie at the bottom that dangles out. But the multicolored chiffon at the top is just so, so pretty and unusual we had to find a way to make this work for the office. So here’s how we’d wear it: light gray trousers (with the tie either tucked in, or tied in a way that it doesn’t dangle), this top (possibly with a navy camisole beneath it), and a fitted white blazer. Thoughts? It’s available at Nordstrom for $69. Lucky Brand Chiffon Yoke Top
