Suit of the Week

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

We like this basic gray suit from Halogen, available at Nordstrom’s. We like the wide trousers, the double collar, and the black buttons. We’d probably skip the untucked floral blouse and wear a pastel tee instead. The jacket (Halogen Three Button Blazer) is $138, and the pants (Halogen Wide Leg Trousers) are $88. Available in sizes 2-16.

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Wool-blend short cardigan

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Vanessa Bruno Athe Wool-blend short cardiganWe’re liking this wool blend cardigan from Vanessa Bruno Athe, available at the Outnet.  The fit is perfect — cropped but not too cropped, fitted but not tight.  The color, admittedly, seems a bit more fall than spring (but hey, it is on sale) — for the spring we might try it with a very light gray (a gray with a bit of blue in it, we think) or perhaps (perhaps!) a light pink.  Was $280, now $140 (lucky sizes 6 and 8 only) at the Outnet. Splurge Tuesday’s TPS Report: 7 For All Mankind Shrunken Blazer

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

7 For All Mankind Shrunken BlazerWe love a good shrunken blazer, and Piperlime has a ton of them in stock right now.  We like this gray one from 7 For All Mankind — we like the fit of it, the notched lapel, and the seaming in the back.  We’d wear it with just about anything, from a full skirt to a shift dress to a pair of trousers — and we feel like the gray is more conducive to a fun color palette than a black blazer would be, either using bold color or going for a sophisticated black-on-gray-on-white look. It’s $275 at Piperlime, in sizes XS-L.  7 For All Mankind Shrunken Blazer

Bargain Friday’s TPS Report: Cashmere V-Neck Sweater

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Cashmere V-Neck SweaterWe’ve heard great reports on Ann Taylor’s cashmere this season, so this sale is too good to pass up — a variety of colors and sizes, in petites and regular, with lots of cashmere sweaters.  Our personal preference is always for the v-neck, and we like this one a lot, as it is not too low, not too high, and has regular-length sleeves.  It was $145, now marked $69, with an additional 40% brings it down to $41.40. (Use code SPRING40 to take 40% off a full-priced item while you’re there.)  Cashmere V-Neck Sweater

Thursday’s TPS Report: Sheer Jersey Necklace Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Anne Klein has some great sales starting now, including an extra 25% off all sales merchandise.  We like this simple jersey dress — which has a built-in camisole/modesty panel.  We’d dress it down a bit for an office and wear a long cardigan, a set of pearls, and a sedate pump (perhaps in a gray or skin-colored tone); and then when it was time to go out for the evening we’d ditch the cardigan and change into sexier shoes.  Was $168, now $99; with the 25% it comes to $75 (which also gets you free shipping).  This one is still available in sizes 2-14, but there are lots of other great work pieces in lucky sizes only.  Sheer Jersey Necklace Dress

Suit of the Week

Piped JacketFor busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

First: Applause to a designer for figuring out that a mini-skirt is not the right look for a suit.  And we loooove this suit — but we might caution that the look is going to look amazing on a beanpole, but perhaps a bit frump for a curvier girl.  Still, for the ladies who can wear it, this is a great look — the piping makes it just a bit different, and it accomplishes being ladylike and a wee bit sexy, all at the same time.  We also like the fact that it’s a dress.  The whole thing is a tiny, wee bit of a splurge: the jacket (Piped Jacket) is $1295, and the dress (Piped Dress) is $995; both available at St. John’s Knits.
