Suit of the Week

62For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

For today’s suit pick, we’re loving this linen/cotton blend from Ann Taylor Loft, available only online.  We like that it comes in navy, white and a creamy beige, as well as that it’s available in sizes 00-18 in regular and petites.  We know, short-sleeved jackets get a bad rap sometimes, but this one truly does strike us as a perfect solution for a situation where it’s ridiculously hot and you’re still expected to look presentable.  The jacket (Linen/Cotton Jacket with Waist Tie) is $79.50, and the skirt (Linen/Cotton Pencil Skirt) is $59.50.  Matching cropped pants (not pictured) are also available in two fits for $69.50 each.  (Julie Linen/Cotton Cropped Pants and Marisa Linen/Cotton Cropped Pants).

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Ruched Cotton Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Donna Ricco Ruched Cotton DressNordstrom has a ton of cute work-appropriate dresses in the $150 and under range right now.  We’re really liking this simple black faux wrap dress which, apparently, is almost a “stretchy denim material,” according to the one reviewer (who raved about the dress).  We like the collar, we like that it’s lined, and we like the ladylike length of it.  Lovely.  It’s $118 at Nordstrom in sizes 4-14.   Donna Ricco Ruched Cotton Dress

Coffee Break: Darleen Pump

Circa Joan & David Women’s Darleen Mid Heel PumpWe like the look of this pump from Joan & David — particularly because it’s only a 2.5″ heel, which is our preferred shoe height.  It comes in both black and brown, and the black is on sale today — was $88, now $79 at Endless.   Circa Joan & David Women’s Darleen Mid Heel Pump

(Oh! We just realized it also comes in pewterand red at  Zappos, and those colors are $75.)

Tuesday’s TPS Report: San Sebastian Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

42.indexed LeTrainBleu has a bunch of great office dresses that have just a hint of an indie vibe right now — for example, this lovely silk crepe de chine dress, with dolman sleeves, a wide boatnecked scarf collar, and a belt to nip in your waist.  We might get daring with shoes with this one, and perhaps a cuff, to accessorize it for the office.  It’s $189 at LeTrainBleu.  San Sebastian Dress

Coffee Break: Clear Lucite Necklace

lucite necklaceToday we’re loving the idea of a chunky, clear lucite necklace — which eBay has aplenty, at very reasonable prices. We’d wear it with a casual outfit like a fuschia tee and gray pants, or even a colorful twinset and a skirt — for some reason we think we’d avoid wearing it with blazers or collared shirts. Love it, though. Pictured: VINTAGE CHUNKY FACETED CLEAR LUCITE NECKLACE & EARRINGS, available at eBay starting at $6.99.

Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Snap-Front Jacket

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Fendi Snap Front JacketWe are normally (really) not fans of orange, but something about this jacket looks so, so luxe to us.  The fabric looks unusual, and the detailing at the nipped waist — and the snaps on the front of the jacket — are all really interesting.  We’d wear it with a beige or white pencil skirt, perhaps, or maybe even a navy blue sheath dress.  It’s $2100 at Bergdorf Goodman in sizes 6-14.  Fendi Snap-Front Jacket
