Suit of the Week: Elie Tahari Black Matte Crepe Suit

Bluefly is slashing prices by an extra 30% for today alone, so we thought we’d see if they had any cute suits. It did not disappoint: behold, a lovely Elie Tahari suit with a slightly odd twist: metal mesh trim. We like that it looks like a normal, boring suit from afar, but has this harder edge when you get close to it. (Although, suffice it to say, on our first wearing we would not accessorize the skirt with good pantyhose.) The ‘Jacqueline’ jacket is $270 (down from $448), and the ‘Pacey’ skirt is $179 (down from $298). (These prices DO reflect the extra 30% off price today.)

Suit of the Week: Tahari Arthur S. Levine Envelope-Collar Belted Pantsuit

We have a feeling this post is going to be a controversial one, but: This envelope-collar belted pantsuit by Tahari Arthur S. Levine strikes us as a perfect example of what to wear to a staff holiday party.  It’s festive, without being in-your-face seasonal or glitzy.  It allows you to maintain a sense of authority yet still party with the secretaries and paralegals and other people you may have to supervise.  If you wanted to make it more stylish, you could swap out the patent leather belt for a wide corset-style leather belt; you could also wear an over-the-top cocktail ring or add a few brooches (in an artful way) to the wide collar.  On sale at Lord & Taylor for $179 (was $280).  (Note also that if this is your first holiday party and you don’t entirely trust us, you could wear a black or red sequined t-shirt beneath the suit and remove the red jacket if your staff party is more festive.)

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Rafe Gloria Platform Peek A Boo T-Strap in Black

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

tights with peeptoe shoes to workWe really, really like these peep-toe t-strap heels, in either black (with green and purple accents) or brown (with red and beige accents) — especially for wearing with tights in the wintertime.*  They’re classic in shape and subdued in color, but the colored accents make them far more interesting.  The platform sole helps offset the 3.5″ heel, also.  They’re marked from $325 to $130 at RevolveClothing.com.  Rafe Gloria Patent Platform Peek A Boo T-Strap in Black

*In summertime we’d probably relegate them to weekend wear — both because the peep toe can be inappropriate to wear with bare toes, and because the patent and suede accents say “fall and winter” to us.

Tuesday’s TPS Report: BOSS Black ‘Deonne’ Shirtdress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

This simple shirtdress is a great classic to pull out in warmer months (spring, are you here yet?). The cotton/polyester dress has side slits for moveability, and side pockets that close with buttons so they don’t affect the “European” (read: close) fit of the dress. We love the darts along the ribcage; very flattering. We also like the price: $294, down from $495 (at Nordstrom). BOSS Black ‘Deonne’ Shirtdress

Tuesday’s TPS Report: Robert Rodriguez Collared Cashmere Cardigan

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Today’s TPS suggestion is this feminine and unique cashmere cardigan by Robert Rodriguez (pictured in a yellow but available only in a gray graphite). The balloon sleeves, cinched waist, wide collar — it all reminds us of something Katharine Hepburn would have worn (perhaps while chasing Cary Grant and her dog around). We think this would look great with wide trousers or a pencil skirt, perhaps accented with a brooch. Available on sale at Nordstrom for $229 (was $385). Robert Rodriguez Collared Cashmere Cardigan

Suit of the Week: J.Crew Classic Herringbone

We love, love, love the ruffled/ruched V-neck collar on this J.Crew suit, as well as the hidden singular button closure.  Available in bright papaya (pictured) and “heather carbon” (a dark gray/black).  The jacket is $188, and the skirt is $118.
