This is the kind of dress that, I think, can make a perfect desk to dinner transition if need be. Love the scoop neckline, the paneled hem, and the “silky, fluid matte jersey.” For the office, I’d wear it with a camisole or slip beneath it (at least the first time), and perhaps a set of pearls or some other statement necklace to raise the focus from the neckline to my face. I might layer a blazer on top, or perhaps just pair it with a simple pair of pumps or even, depending on the mores of the office, some knee-high boots. It’s on a pretty good sale right now — was $179, now marked to $125.30 — and if you shop with your Bloomingdale’s card you can take another $25 off a purchase of $100-$250. We don’t usually go for polyester skirts, but something about this one is calling to us — love the lattice print, the A-line, the at-the-knee length — it all seems lovely (especially for the price). We’d wear it with a dark red cardigan, or perhaps a shrunken blazer. Was $60, now $34.99 at Macy’s. Charter Club Skirt, A-Line Printed

Today, we’re liking this paneled wool skirt from Nordstrom’s. We like the knee-grazing length of it, as well as the flattering A-line shape — it’s a perfect basic for the winter. It’s $78 at Nordstrom’s, available in sizes 2 through 16. Semantiks Stretch Wool Skirt
