Suit of the Week: J.Crew

J.Crew superfine cotton suitingFor busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

Yawn: there are not a lot of interesting suits out there right now! I’m liking the new superfine cotton collection from J.Crew, though, and not just because some of the pieces come in a brilliant “byzantine blue.” The fit looks solid, and I’m intrigued by their description of the cotton, which is “siro spun to give it a hint of stretch, [a treatment] only the best suiting fabrics in Japan get”). In-ter-est-ing. The jacket (1035 jacket in superfine cotton) is $178, the trouser (1035 trouser in superfine cotton) is $118, the skirt (Pencil skirt in superfine cotton) is $98, and the dress (Marielle dress in superfine cotton) is $178 (regulars and petites).

Tuesday’s TPS Report: Wool Boucle Jacket

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

TAGLIATORE 0205 - WOOL BOUCLÈ JACKETBoth the store and the brand are new ones to me:  the store (Luisaviaroma) bills itself as “latest collections from top designers,” and the brand (Tagliatore), upon closer inspection, is not something to serve with bolognese sauce, and is instead a suiting brand (also sold at Yoox). Now for today’s specimen: I really love this wool blazer  — the single button, the bracelet-length sleeves, the stiffish collar — love it all. And at 40% off, too! The blazer was $833, but is now marked to $500 at Luisaviaroma. TAGLIATORE 0205 – WOOL BOUCLÈ JACKET

Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Boot-Cut Crepe Pants

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Ooooh: love these Michael Kors boot-cut crepe pants. Beige is not normally a color that excites me (pants or otherwise) but this light caramel color really looks lux and fresh to me. The pants were $895, now marked to $534, at Nordstrom. Michael Kors Boot-Cut Crepe Pants

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Curvy Twill Wide Leg Trousers

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. Many thanks to this week’s TPS guest poster, Road Warriorette!

Curvy Twill Wide Leg TrousersUntil I found Ann Taylor Curvy pants, I thought I was just destined to never be able to tuck anything in. See, I am a high-waisted hourglass, and when I tuck things in I inevitably look like, well, a burrito. No waist definition in sight, just one long unattractive line. Then I discovered the wonder that is Ann Taylor Curvy. Finally! It’s like they were made just for me, and I can finally tuck things in like a normal person. I love these Twill Wide Leg Trousers for a lot of reasons. They are soft, neutral, affordable (Ann Taylor is always on sale somehow), not to mention fully lined. My favorite part? As long as you pull them out of your suitcase the night before, they won’t be wrinkled when you put them on in the morning. You can wear them with virtually anything, but today I’m thinking something jewel-toned would be nice, maybe a silky teal patterned blouse, tucked in of course. Add some bright shoes, maybe a nice red round-toed patent, and you will be super stylish. They are $98 when they’re not on sale, available in sizes 00-18 regular, 00-16 petite. (These Camel Twill trousers are also available in their Signature and Modern fits.) Curvy Twill Wide Leg Trousers

Wednesday’s TPS Report: Ruthie shirtdress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Ruthie shirtdressiconJ.Crew recently added this cute shirt dress to the mix, and I really like it — the nipped-in waist, the pleated skirt, even the half-placket.  I wish the skirt were a bit longer (according to J.Crew’s customer service, the size 8 has a 19.25″ skirt length) — but still, it’s a lovely dress with a vintage feel. I like it best in the dark navy, but the “heather saddle” (pictured) and “gatsby green” are also nice. It’s $118 at JCrew.com. Ruthie shirtdress

Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Tropical Wool Straight Leg Pants

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Rachel Roy Tropical Wool Straight Leg PantsHappy Monday! I’m loving these pants from Rachel Roy. Love the tropical wool, as well as the fact that they’re partially lined. I also like that they sit higher on the waist than a lot of trousers, but don’t quite harken back to the “high waisted” trend of a year or two ago. Simple, beautiful, classic — love ‘em. They’re $345 at Bloomingdale’s. Rachel Roy Tropical Wool Straight Leg Pants
