Looooove this sophisticated stretch crepe jacket from Donna Karan. It looks cozy but authoritative at the same time — not to mention flattering. I’d either wear it with all black, or else I’d have fun with colorblocking — perhaps wearing a royal blue pencil skirt and using a colorful belt (purple? green?) instead of the one it comes with. It’s $1995 at Nordstrom (limited sizes only). Donna Karan Collection Belted Stretch Crepe Jacket

Love this deep red dress from Kay Unger. Love the cap sleeves and the material (a woven silk, which won’t wrinkle quite as easily as plain silk), and we like the little lapels on the neckline of the dress. It’s part of Bluefly’s extra 10% off sale going on today — so it was $375, then marked to $224, but for today only it’s $201.60. Nice! Kay Unger red silk belted cap sleeve dress

Today’s item is recommended by reader C, who gushes over the “amazing pencil skirts” at Talbots, noting that while she’d like to wear Nanette Lepore to the office, “these will have to do.” And indeed, we do like the look of these skirts — the cascading folds look lovely but still professional. This also strikes us as a great price for a fully-lined wool/spandex skirt. It’s available in sizes 2-20, as well as petites and plus sizes, at Talbots for $129. Belted flannel skirt

Today’s post is suggested by reader J, who — like us — wears dresses as often as possible in the summertime. She recently purchased this dress, and notes that “for the price, the quality seems quite good (except for the belt, which is easily swapped). Although it doesn’t say so in the description, the dress also has essentially invisible – yet deep – pockets. It’s incredibly flattering on. I think that it’s a great summer-to-fall dress.” So do we — it’s lovely! J got hers at Macy’s but we couldn’t find it on the website… it is also available at Dillards.com for $80. Oooo: we’re loving this dress by Laundry by Shelli Segal, available in inkblot blue (sadly only available for the tiny girls) and in melon red (available up to size 6). Clean lines, solid patterns, a bit of interesting pleating, and a nice belt… lovely. It’s on sale for $129 (was $215) at Dillard’s. Laundry by Shelli Segal Belted Jersey Dress
