I always feel like outerwear is a good place to invest because a) you can wear it every day during the season, and b) if you invest well, you’ll have it for years. Today I’m liking this slightly different take on the classic trench from Diane von Furstenberg — the ruffle is interesting, yet not too frilly or clown-like. I also like the way the jacket looks different depending on whether it’s worn open or closed, as well as when the top button is closed. It’s $565 at Bergdorf Goodman (and at Bloomingdale’s
as well). Ruffled Trench Coat

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
Graphics aside (it’s like they’re trying to sell a black suit in a darkened room! what the heck?), we like what we CAN see of this great suit from Donna Karan. Love the jacket’s off-shoulder collar and high belt, and the contour seams of the pencil skirt strike us as flattering (even if they might require an underlayer of Spanx). The jacket (Donna Karan Collection Belted Stretch-Wool Jacket) is $1,495, and the skirt (Donna Karan Collection Pencil Skirt) is $550, both available at Bergdorf Goodman.

Today we’re liking this regal red number from Carolina Herrera. Love the side pleats on the one shoulder, and the way they continue to the hem; it’s also great to see an asymmetric neckline again. The dress is made of wool, cashmere and angora with a silk lining — so perhaps we’ll have to wait until the heat wave breaks to wear it. It’s $2,790 at Bergdorf Goodman. Love, love, love this Donna Karan suit — if only it weren’t quite so low cut. First, the good: love the flattering, feminine look — the cinched waist, the suit-but-not-a-suit look to it, and even the brown-on-gray color scheme (with the belt). The bad: we’d probably advise going up a size (or three) in order to make sure that jacket crosses at a high enough point — we’re just not sure we could work a camisole beneath it. Still: gorgeous suit. The jacket (Belted Cascade Jacket) is $1295, and the skirt (Drape Back Pencil Skirt) is $650, both available at Bergdorf Goodman.

Bergdorf Goodman just added some Fall 2010 designer styles to the website, and it’s worth taking a gander just to drool — so many lovely, lovely things. For today’s TPS, we’re loving these high-waisted tweed pants from Chloe — they strike us as such an elegant, sophisticated look, from the cut and shape to the largeish chevron tweed pattern. We particularly like that the wool pants are lined with cotton instead of polyester. The pants are $1,115 at Bergdorf Goodman.Chloe High-Waist Tweed Pants

Happy Monday! Today, we are digging this Marc by Marc Jacobs jacket. The double-buttoned trench is a classic look, but this strikes us as a colorful, fresh take on it. We particularly love the way the lines of the windowpane are slightly furry (alpaca, we’re guessing). Gorgeous. Alas, you probably won’t get much wear out of it until September — but that’s probably also why it’s such a great price: was $728, now $364 at Bergdorf Goodman (sizes 2-8 only). Windowpane Long Coat
