Even though they’ve been around for a few years, I still like a good flyaway cardigan — and this ribbed acrylic one from New York & Company looks flattering at a price that’s hard to beat. I’d wear it with a structured/fitted piece (pencil skirt, sheath dress) for the office. It’s available in black, blue, and white for $29.97 (was $49.95). Ribbed Flyaway Cardigan

Let me start by saying that I hate crossbody bags. They remind me of my middle school years in Ohio, when I would get all dressed up to go out, and then throw my fluorescent ski jacket on top of my dress, and then throw my black crossbody bag on top of that. (As I’d head out the door, I might pause to add more hairspray to my teased bangs. Ah, memories.) But — that said — I know that the crossbody bag is hot again, and hey, for some people this uber-functional look has never gone out of style. So if you happen to be looking for a crossbody bag, this is a pretty darned cute one from Cole Haan. I particularly love the peacock blue (pictured) but it also comes in black, dark mocha, a light purple “dusk,”, “palomino snake” (white), and “stone snake.” Zappos has the bag on sale today — it was $228, but is now marked to $182.40. Reader S wrote in to recommend this dress: “I’m always on the hunt for versatile pieces that I can wear to work and on the weekend. I find dresses are usually my best bet with this purpose in mind–but they can be tough to find. The “Delightful Day” dress fits that bill. I’m wearing it right now with a black blazer and high black heels for a corporate-environment-friendly Friday outfit. If I take the blazer off and switch to a more casual belt (something woven or weathered leather) and slip on some sandals or espadrilles, I have a pretty weekend dress. It’s very comfortable and is made from a thin-ish material perfect for a hot summer day. It’s also flattering on a curvier frame.” I think this is a great example of something that isn’t usually my style (beyond all the blue) but that I would totally want if I saw S in the hallway wearing it. I like the black blazer and heels with it, and I think the belt is a great way to switch the vibe from dressier to casual. The dress is $84.99 at Modcloth (limited sizes only, alas). Annoyingly, I couldn’t find much info on this brand when I was poking around the other day, but here’s what I’ve heard: Pippa Madison
is a designer exclusive to Bloomingdale’s, newly introduced and focusing on workwear; the brand may also be a lower-priced line from the designers behind French Connection. Information and belief aside, I like the look of this navy blue ponte jersey dress. Love the three-point v-neck, the slight puff to the sleeves and the small (reallly!) peplum details on either side of the waist. It’s on a pretty good discount, too: was $158, now $126.40 at Bloomingdale’s. Pippa Madison Ponte Jersey Dress

I don’t say this often, but: there are a ton of cute tops on sale at The Limited right now. Essential shirts
, their work-appropriate basics, are 30% off, including this lovely wrap top in stretch cotton. I like it for work with a shrunken blazer or a fitted cardigan, and call me crazy but I love the deep, saturated colors (“ballgown blue” is pictured, it also comes in “deep orchid”). It was $46.90, but is now on sale for $32.83 (sizes XS-XL). Sleeveless Ruffle Wrap Top
