This time of the year is always a great time to stock up on classic, timeless items that are now on deep discount simply because the weather is getting warmer. Take this skirt, for example: it’s never going to be an exciting skirt, but it’s made of good materials (Shetland wool, lined in Bemberg), and is a flattering A-line cut — the kind of thing you’ll wear for probably as long as it fits you. It was $168 at Brooks Brothers — but it’s currently marked down to $67.20 (sizes 6-16 still available).

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
I’ve been eyeing this suit for a while. The skirt was what caught my eye — a simple, straight A-line is difficult to find in a suit, but that does seem to be what we have here. (They note that there is a slit in the skirt, but don’t say where it is — I wonder if it’s on the side or in the back.) Looking at it more closely, the white pinstriping on the gray wool is a bit unusual — a nice, springy touch. I’d pair it with a bright yellow top if I were feeling happy, black or navy if I were feeling more sedate. The jacket (Wool One-Button Pinstripe Jacket) is $368, the skirt (Pinstripe Skirt) is $188, and the pants (Wool Plain-Front Lucia Pinstripe Pant) are $198. Note that Brooks Brothers is having their Preferred Customer Event right now (through 4/7) and you can enjoy 15% off your entire order
(25% if you use your Brooks card).

The clearance sale at Brooks Brothers is on, including this simple purple shift, made from New Zealander wool (woven by Loro Piana) and lined in Bemberg. Love it with the brooch, as styled here; it also would be great with a statement necklace or even a scarf in a complimentary color. Was $348, now $174 at Brooks Brothers.com. Today we’re loving this East Coast professor vibe — the collared shirt, the cardigan, the blazer — fabulous. We particularly like the lightweight wool blazer — it’s classic but hip with a slight horizontal weave. It’s $198 at Brooks Brothers, sizes 0-16. Lightweight Wool Jacket
