Love, love, love this herringbone jersey dress from Armani Collezioni. Love the feminine silhouette with a “masculine” pattern, and I think the scoopneck, sleeves, inverted pleats, and concealed back zipper (huzzah!) are perfect for the office. It’s $745 at Saks Fifth Avenue. Herringbone Jersey Dress

Reader S wrote in to recommend this dress: “I’m always on the hunt for versatile pieces that I can wear to work and on the weekend. I find dresses are usually my best bet with this purpose in mind–but they can be tough to find. The “Delightful Day” dress fits that bill. I’m wearing it right now with a black blazer and high black heels for a corporate-environment-friendly Friday outfit. If I take the blazer off and switch to a more casual belt (something woven or weathered leather) and slip on some sandals or espadrilles, I have a pretty weekend dress. It’s very comfortable and is made from a thin-ish material perfect for a hot summer day. It’s also flattering on a curvier frame.” I think this is a great example of something that isn’t usually my style (beyond all the blue) but that I would totally want if I saw S in the hallway wearing it. I like the black blazer and heels with it, and I think the belt is a great way to switch the vibe from dressier to casual. The dress is $84.99 at Modcloth (limited sizes only, alas). Today I’m loving this origami sheath dress in one of J.Crew’s suiting materials, wool crepe. The slight A-line skirt — the cap sleeves — the high neckline — the beautiful folds at the neck — it all seems really lovely. It’s available in four colors (charcoal, pictured, as well as a light gray “cool dusk,” a beige “morning fog,” and a “decadent red”) at J.Crew for $188. Origami sheath dress in wool crepe

The Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale has begun, and a number of new items have markdowns up to 50%. I like this simple dress from BCBGMaxAzria, which won reviewers over for its flattering fit. I like the geometric pleat details on the front, as well as the sleeves, high neckline, and ladylike hemline for the office. The on-seam pockets could also be great for carrying keycards, cash, or even a tube of lipstick. It was $228, now marked to $109.90. BCBGMAXAZRIA Short Sleeve Dress

Oooh: fabulous basic dress from Brooks Brothers, and it seems to be selling out fast in the different colors. Love the boatneck and those little gathers at the waist — it’s the perfect dress to wear for the office under a blazer or by itself, or even with an elegant wrap for an evening out. It’s available in peyote (pictured), as well as a navy, a light blue, and a white; it’s also available in petites. The dress is $128 at Brooks Brothers. Cotton Stretch Dress

I’m intrigued by this colorful button-down dress with a belt. I think the belt is the key to making it look good (see, e.g., the Saks video, where the whole dress looks much more schlumpy when styled with a skinny belt and wedges). For work I’d wear it with a wide belt — white if I had it, but brown or black if not — and classic pumps, with a shrunken blazer, perhaps with the dress’s collar popped up a bit on top. In cooler weather I’d wear a white cardigan on top of the dress, belted with the same wide belt. The dress was $396 but is now $237 at Alice + Olivia, or $277 at Saks. Button Down Dress with Belt
