For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
Lots of new suits are hitting the stores this week, apparently. We really like this chic navy blue suit — we like the loose collar, the high waist of the skirt, and the texture of the shantung. We do wish, however, that the skirt were longer than 20.5 inches (but hey, we’re sure the teenagers buying DvF suits will look great in it!). If you’re 5′4 or below, though, we’d give it a try anyway. The set is available at Saks for pre-order — the jacket (Jonesie Shantung Jersey Jacket) is $345, and the skirt (Chi-Chi High-Waisted Skirt) is $185. (Incidentally — Saks is having tons of sales, with new products having hit the racks yesterday.)

This week, we’re loving this Furstenburg suit from Bloomingdale’s. The flared hem, the straight, knee-length skirt, the slightly shaped shoulders — it reminds us of a (slightly) more affordable version of the Dior suit from a few weeks ago, and, like that one, seems inspired by the heroine of a noir thriller (without being costumey). The jacket (Diane von Furstenberg “50s” Black Stitched Crepe Jersey Jacket) is $495, and the skirt (Diane von Furstenberg “50s” Black Stitched Crepe Jersey Skirt) is $298.

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Saks has started a three-day Friends and Family event, where you can get a discount of up to 25% on almost all of the merchandise — which means it’s a great time to check out some of those items that never go on sale (or if they do, only have lucky sizes and weird prints left over). For example: The DvF wrap dress. Some hate it, some love it, some say the key is to wear it backwards. Either way, it is a classic, and a very recognizable designer addition to your wardrobe because of her recognizable prints and thick silk fabric. Normally $325, with the discount (code SFAFAM9) it comes to $243. Not bad — not bad at all. Diane von Furstenberg – Julian Wrap Dress

We are always huge fans of DvF dresses but for the minor fact that, well, we have only met one person who can wear the wrap dress to work. For everyone else, they are too low, too flyaway, too revealing… This dress, the “New Domina,” has none of those problems. The quality is still there, both in the fit and the fabric (slightly stretchy but not too much), as well as the simple yet unique design. Available at ShopBop for $365 (in navy/white, as shown, as well as hot pink and plain black). Diane von Furstenberg New Domina Dress

If you love DvF’s wrap dresses, but can’t quite pull one off (either because the prints aren’t flattering on you, or wrap dresses just aren’t flattering on you), you may want to try a wrap blouse, like this woven one on sale at ShopBop. Worn with trousers, it’s less feminine than a wrap dress, and there’s no fear of the wrap dress popping open throughout the day. We highly recommend wearing it with a tank top, as almost every DvF thing we own is cut way, way too low for work. Originally $265, it’s now marked to $185. Diane von Furstenberg Camille Wrap Blouse

This week’s suit of the week is a gorgeous black-and-blue plaid number, with gold threads running throughout, from Diane von Furstenberg. Both the jacket and the skirt would be adorable on their own, or together. We particularly love the high waist on the skirt — it’s a much easier way to wear the trend rather than, say, high-waisted trousers. (We also like the fact that the suit is on point with various trends — high-waist, plaid — yet looks like it’ll last for years.) The Bette jacket is available from Bloomingdale’s for $475; the Adame skirt is $275.

No one does prints quite like Diane von Furstenberg. They’re colorful and playful, yet sophisticated — and lux. Perfect for a pick-me-up as you’re getting dressed for a long day at the office. We’d wear this one under a black suit, or with gray trousers. Available at Saks for $198. Diane von Furstenberg Nadina Blouse
