Lots of new suits are hitting the stores this week, apparently. We really like this chic navy blue suit — we like the loose collar, the high waist of the skirt, and the texture of the shantung. We do wish, however, that the skirt were longer than 20.5 inches (but hey, we’re sure the teenagers buying DvF suits will look great in it!). If you’re 5’4 or below, though, we’d give it a try anyway. The flared hem, the straight, knee-length skirt, the slightly shaped shoulders — it reminds us of a (slightly) more affordable version of the Dior suit from a few weeks ago, and, like that one, seems inspired by the heroine of a noir thriller (without being costumey). We are always huge fans of DvF dresses but for the minor fact that, well, we have only met one person who can wear the wrap dress to work. For everyone else, they are too low, too flyaway, too revealing… This dress, the “New Domina,” has none of those problems. The quality is still there, both in the fit and the fabric (slightly stretchy but not too much), as well as the simple yet unique design. This week’s suit of the week is this lovely knit suit from DvF. We like the thick knit, as well as the nipped-in, structured look of both pieces. The neckline of the jacket, in particular, is interesting — we’ve never seen a combination of a scoop-neck, notched Nehru collar, let alone such a winning and different take on it. If you love DvF’s wrap dresses, but can’t quite pull one off (either because the prints aren’t flattering on you, or wrap dresses just aren’t flattering on you), you may want to try a wrap blouse, like this woven one on sale at ShopBop. Worn with trousers, it’s less feminine than a wrap dress, and there’s no fear of the wrap dress popping open throughout the day.
