Ellen Tracy

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Ellen Tracy Dress, Ruched SleeveDo not adjust your screens: yes, wow, that is a really bright pink dress. But let’s focus, instead, on the fact that the dress comes in a subdued blue “midnight” as well as a black color. Reader R wrote in to recommend the dress in midnight, noting “I’m wearing it today with black tights and booties. The dress is really soft and is cut really well. The belt that came with it is actually nice enough to use with other outfits as well. I look for 3 things in a dress – sleeves, machine washable, and pockets. This is two out of the three (no pockets), but at this price, I’m REALLY happy.” For my $.02, I like the boatneck and the fact that the sleeves are almost elbow length, which is difficult to find in a dress. It was $119.50, but is now marked to $59.99 at Macy’s. Ellen Tracy Dress, Ruched Sleeve

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

iconNordstrom’s half-yearly sale has begun, and there are some great pieces to be had at great prices (although it does seem like a lot of sizes are under-represented). For today’s TPS, we’re liking this beautiful, ladylike, comfortable skirt from Ellen Tracy — how perfect to tuck in silk blouses (or wear with a bodysuit); we’d also wear it with a cropped blazer or perhaps a wrap if we were cold. Was $248, now $147 with the sale at Nordstrom’s. Ellen Tracy Stretch Wool Skirt

This dress is yet another great example of a classic, well-made sheath dress that you can get for a song these days.  The darts along the bust, waist and hips make it incredibly flattering.  The color is ink, which can be hard to match with navy — we’d suggest pairing with a cardigan or jacket in gray, white, purple, yellow, or green.  Was $448, now $138 on sale at Saks.  (We should mention that there is a “detachable ruffle collar” that reminds us greatly of the little black dress Jamie Lee Curtis wore in True Lies.  In other words: We’d skip the ruffle.)    Ellen Tracy – Micro Faille Dress
