We’re loving this gray silk blend dress from Banana Republic. The watercolor print is interesting without being distracting (and: bonus points for being vaguely vertical, which is always flattering), and we love the high neckline. tThe Limited has a lot of suiting on work pieces on sale right now, and reader K asked for our thoughts on this skirt. “I think it’s really fun and might be work-worthy with a good button down. Wondering if the ‘petal’ effect might make it too short for the office?” We do like the look of this piece, and agree with the reader that it looks fun and interesting — although with the obvious caveat that it’s a little short. If you’re petite, though, or happen to have short legs, this skirt might just hit you at the right point — which we would say would be just at your knee, with the petal part being just above the knee. (We’re talking centimeters, not inches, here.) We’d probably wear it with a sweater set rather than a buttoned shirt, but that’s just us. We love this lightweight sheath dress. The color of the gray feels more spring than fall to us, and the flower applique on the belt helps that impression. (We’re guessing the belt can be removed pretty easily if you don’t like the look, although you might try to save the flower to wear as a brooch.) We’d wear it with a structured jacket or, perhaps, a cardigan (the yellow cashmere one from Banana Republic that we featured week or so ago, for example). 6pm.com has one of the perennial reader favorites in today’s sale: Stuart Weitzman.* We’re liking this interesting pair of flats, which have a gradient effect. They’re available in brown and red as well, and a fairly good number of sizes considering that they’re 50% off. (Some prices are up to 85% off, but lucky sizes only). If you haven’t shopped 6pm.com before: it’s owned by Zappos, and gives you 30 days to return purchases (but you have to pay return shipping). Not bad for deep discounts on one-day only sale items. For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
We like this basic gray suit from Halogen, available at Nordstrom’s. We like the wide trousers, the double collar, and the black buttons. We love a good shrunken blazer, and Piperlime has a ton of them in stock right now. We like this gray one from 7 For All Mankind — we like the fit of it, the notched lapel, and the seaming in the back. We’d wear it with just about anything, from a full skirt to a shift dress to a pair of trousers — and we feel like the gray is more conducive to a fun color palette than a black blazer would be, either using bold color or going for a sophisticated black-on-gray-on-white look. Dillards is having some great online sales, and if you try to ignore the fact that, without fail, the model is wearing ugly sandals with pants that are too short. We like this charcoal Antonio Melani suit — we think it would go great with a dark purple or royal blue top. Loooving this dress from the Classiques Entier line at Nordstrom. Love the color, the detailing at the waist, and we even feel like the little bow/sash hanging down gives the dress some vertical lines, making it more slimming. Love.
