Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

We’re liking the drapy cardigans of the season, but some of the very lightweight ones can look a little too unstructured for the office. That’s why we like this textured cardigan from Jones New York. The camel hair color is sophisticated (we’d wear it with browns or blacks), and perhaps a basic white tee if we didn’t want to wear the matching cowl-neck shell. The cardigan is $109 at Macy’s, in sizes S-XL. Jones New York Open-Front Textured Cardigan

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

This cotton skirt suit is simple, wearable, and just slightly preppy — the small “cactus stripe” running through it reminds us of men’s seersucker suits. To make things even better, it’s on sale — was $240, now $160. (And, apparently through 9/07, and get free shipping on $100 or more.) It’s available in sizes 4 through 16. 2 Piece Cactus Stripe Jacket And Skirt Suit
Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

Every so often, a “mom” brand hits one out of the park, designing a great basic piece that you’ll wear a ton. We’d put these stretch trousers from Jones New York in that category. The rise is slightly higher than you might be used to, but low-rise pants aren’t always (or even often) that appropriate for a professional setting. We like the slight bootcut, the fact that they’re machine-washable, and the three different color options (black, chocolate, and the pictured charcoal). Available at Nordstrom.com for $89. It is another week without a really standout suit — perhaps the economy is driving everyone towards more basic suits? In any event, we like this pinstriped pant suit from Jones New York, available at Macy’s. In particular, we like the chalk stripes, and the three pockets and buttons. It comes with a knit shell, which we would jettison immediately, wearing the suit with something more luxurious, such as silk or cashmere. Available at Macy’s for $320 (for both pieces).
