For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
OK: let’s ignore the model, who perhaps had a Big Gulp before they started the shoot. Or something. Anyway: I like this suit. It’s just a leeetle bit different — the slight flounce to the jacket, the wide cuffs on the blazer, and the lovely texture to the tweed. It’s $395 at Neiman Marcus. Albert Nipon Tweed Suit

Happy Monday! I am loving this simple blazer from Akris. The color is unusual, but not so quirky that you’re limited in when you can wear it. I love (love!) the double pocket, as well as the darts for fit. I’d wear it with a burgundy silk blouse and, perhaps, brown pants. It’s $3,990 at Neiman Marcus (limited sizes only, alas). Last Call by Neiman Marcus seems to have a number of cute basics from Lafayette 148 New York on sale today, including this lovely green shirt. Yes, $75 is pricey for a t-shirt (on sale), but I have a feeling this is the kind of shirt you’ll have in your closet for at least 5 years. I like the pleat details at the neck, the boldness of the colors, and the formfitting jersey. I’d go preppy with it and wear it with a navy pencil skirt and, perhaps, gold accessories — or perhaps a bit wild with it and pair it with black trousers and a purple waterfall cardigan. It was $168, now on sale for $75. Pleated-Neck Tee

I am not normally a fan of banded bottoms (or, truth be told, smocking), but this cotton/silk blouse has a lot going for it: I love the pattern, it’s from a great brand (Lafayette 148 New York) and it’s part of a hot sale: today only you can take an extra 30% off the entire site, Last Call by Neiman Marcus. Like I said: love the colors, the mixture of blues, and the playful pattern. I also like a more bloused effect, which can be helpful for those of us who don’t have washboard abs (and want to give the Spanx a day off). It was $268, now $135 — take an extra 30% off today only. Love the structured but feminine look to this dress from Kay Unger. The chambray almost looks like a tweed with speckles of white, and the vertical seams offer a contoured but still professional fit. Love the ruffled neckline and the belted, empire waist. I’d probably wear it with a white blazer on a spring day, or by itself on a hotter summer day. It’s $330 at Neiman Marcus. I always like a cardigan for a casual day, and I love this creamy Leifsdottir cardigan with an ombre artsy pattern on it. I’d wear it as a layering piece with an otherwise boring outfit — say, a navy pencil skirt and a white silk tee — and perhaps pick up one of the colors in the cardigan in my pumps, such as the pink. It’s $198 at Neiman Marcus. Leifsdottir Painted Cardigan
