Deal Alert: Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly Sale is On (Merry Christmas!)

nordstrom half-yearly sale xmas 2017Whoa — Nordstrom’s Half-Yearly sale just started! (Merry Christmas!) I’ll do a bigger post later today or tomorrow, but a quick swing through the sale section shows some MAJOR deals to be had on great basics like lingerie (Natori, Hanky Panky, Spanx), denim (AG, Paige, Wit & Wisdom), shoes (AGL, Weitzman, Cole Haan), bags (Tory Burch, Tumi, Kate Spade), and of course workwear like Hugo Boss, Vince Camuto, Equipment, and Halogen).

Pictured at top, $71 – $374: flat / pump / dress / toteblazer

Other big sales of note today:

  • Boden is up to 50% off, plus free shipping over $49 (check out our guide to how to build a work wardrobe at Boden, with all the classic stuff to buy)
  • Saks is up to 70% off (online only, I believe)
  • Zappos has a ton of stuff on sale, including best-sellers like UGG, Hunter, Sorel, and more…

I’ll be adding some of the great deals I’m seeing on clothes directly below, and shoes, bags and more at the bottom — what are your favorites, ladies?

Something on your mind? Chat about it here.

Yes, yes: I’ve posted about velvet skinny jeans before this year, but they’re starting to hit the sales racks in a major way. These “black cherry” Paige skinny jeans look awesome, and they’re down to $104 from $208, which means I’m getting a pair today. They’ve got great reviews, and are available in sizes 24-34. Oooh: Note that Nordstrom and Amazon both have other colors in velvet, as well as coated jeans and regular jeans. If you’re looking for plus sized velvet skinny jeans, check out NordstromTarget and Old Navy.

Frugal Friday’s Workwear Report: Tissue Turtleneck Tee

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I feel like turtlenecks are having a moment right now (I even just saw a whole article on how to wear necklaces and turtlenecks) — so I’m excited to see that J.Crew’s tissue-thin turtlenecks are still available. They are down to $17 at Nordstrom today (whoop whoop!) and available in about a zillion colors and stripes.  J.Crew Tissue Turtleneck Tee

Psst – If you’re a Level 2-4 Nordstrom cardholder and haven’t yet chosen your “Personal 10 Point Day” at Nordstrom, I believe the opportunity expires on 12/24. Their big sale won’t be in full swing until Christmas day, likely, but they’ve already started marking things down, like these turtlenecks — so it isn’t a bad time to do a swing of the site if you’ve got time today. Great time to stock up on basics for work like these hose, these pantsthis cardigan, this cardigan, or this camisole — or for the basics for the weekend like denim.

sequin skirt 2017Something on your mind? Chat about it here.

Sequin pencil skirts are having a moment right now, and I think they’re a great option — particularly where you have to change quickly after work for a Friday party or whatnot.  This pretty silver one from Halogen (also in black) is $89 at Nordstrom. Sequin Pencil Skirt

If $89 is too rich for your blood, here are two more affordable versions getting good reviews — and here’s a lovely green plus-size sequin skirt.

Gift Ideas: Hydro Flask & Yeti

Here’s a serious question for the readers that’s very appropriate for a “Coffee Break” post: Hydro Flask or Yeti? I know people have some strong opinions on the best tumbler for carrying coffee to work. Hydro Flash has some serious accolades at Nordstrom, while the Yeti has the same over at Amazon. If you’re looking for a gift for someone who really wants to keep their coffee hot on their commute or travels, these are both good, affordable options that come in fun colors. So I’m curious to hear which is your preferred coffee transport method! Hydro Flask ($25) or Yeti ($30)

Splurge Monday’s Workwear Report: Glassa Sheath Dress

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Happy Cyber Monday! Have you guys seen any good deals yet? I’m just starting to poke around, but the  Nordstrom sale continues to be one of the best deals out there, particularly for spluge-worthy brands like Max Mara, Akris Punto, and more. (Saks and Neiman Marcus are both worth looking at as well this morning for this kind of purchase, where both have a tiered gift card offer up to $750 for regular-price purchases) This dress may look simple and like a dress you could get at $80 at one of the mall stores — but the difference in fabrics and tailoring is apparent as soon as you touch it.  It was $795, but is now marked to $476. Glassa Sheath Dress

This $69 plus-size dress has a similar color and vibe, and this $128 dress in regular sizes is a classic.
