I swung by the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale online this morning to see what was left, and was surprised to see lots of cute things still on sale. I had not noticed this simple merino wool v-neck during my initial browsing (click here for my top 15 or so picks from the sale), but I love love love it (particularly in the “blue dark” color, pictured); it’s also still available in espresso and medium heather gray for regulars, and black, espresso, medium gray, magenta, and plum for petites. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is on — as always, they’re marking down new fall merchandise for a limited time; prices rise after August 1. For today’s TPS I like this knit bow top. Love the ruched sleeves, the deepish V, and the fact that it’s a knit instead of a blouse. It’s available in ivory, black, espresso, magenta, and gunmetal. For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.
We’re not normally a fan of the short-sleeved jacket, but we like here with this Nanette Lepore suit. The jacket is shapely, with puffed sleeves and a nipped in waist, and the vertical lines on the skirt are slimming. We like the unusual color, also — it would make a great late-summer, early-fall suit. (If it ever gets cold again, we’d wear it with a tissue-thin long-sleeved tee beneath the jacket, either scoopnecked or turtlenecked.) Nordstrom has a ton of cute dresses in the $80ish range during its anniversary sale. Today we’re liking this ponte knit sheath dress from Adrianna Papell. The scooped neckline is flattering, while the pleats from the empire waist strikes us as new — it almost seems like a modern rendition of a Joan dress on Mad Men. Love.
