peplum

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Tahari by ASL Suit, Ruched Jacket & Pant SetEvery so often, it’s possible to find a good suit for under $150 — but for under $60 is a rare find. I like this brown ruched jacket from Tahari by ASL — the peplum jacket looks flattering and classic, and could be worn with a multitude of other things (I’m seeing it with black trousers and, perhaps, a deep red sweater beneath), as well as with the matching pants. Was $280, now $60 — lucky sizes 2, 8, 10 and 12 only as of this AM. (If you buy other stuff, be sure to try promo code VETSDAY — it takes 15% off select items.) Alice + Olivia Hunter Peplum BlazerHappy Monday!  We are loving this deceptively simple blazer from Alice + Olivia.  At first glance, it looks like your basic gray tweed blazer — but on closer inspection you notice the velvet trim, the flounced peplum waist , and the slight shaping to the shoulders.  Fabulous.  We’d wear it with a pencil skirt, or perhaps a high-waisted pant.  It’s $440 at Shopbop.com.  Alice + Olivia Hunter Peplum Blazer

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

Man, online stores have nothing by way of an interesting suit this week. Which means that we’re going to go with a lovely basic — this J.Crew super 120s combo of a peplum jacket and fluted skirt.  After all, we love a good peplum jacket, as well as a good wool like super 120s.  The jacket (Super 120s peplum jacket) is $188, and the skirt (Super 120s fluted skirt) is $118.

We like this cool black suit from Pink Tartan. Love the way the jacket is super shaped when it’s closed, love the way it looks cool and casual in that boxy Chanel way when open. We’re intrigued by the fact that it’s cotton linen and has interior slash pockets. And yes, we like the exposed zipper. The jacket (Pink Tartan Peplum Suit Jacket) is $495, and the skirt (Pink Tartan Pencil Skirt) is $295 — both available at Bloomingdale’s.

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.

iconWhite House|Black Market is having a great spring sale right now, including this peplum jacket, which we’ve been seeing everywhere of late. (A refresher: a peplum is technically a skirt attached to a jacket; in its 2009 incarnation we’re seeing short flaps on the frontside of the jacket extended from the waist down. It gives the jacket more flounce and accentuates your waist.) We like this for a basic black jacket to keep in your office this summer and throw on over — well, everything — if you’re not already wearing a jacket or cardi. It’s on sale — now $99, was $158.
