pinstripes

Brooks Brothers Wool One-Button Pinstripe JacketFor busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

I’ve been eyeing this suit for a while.  The skirt was what caught my eye — a simple, straight A-line is difficult to find in a suit, but that does seem to be what we have here.  (They note that there is a slit in the skirt, but don’t say where it is — I wonder if it’s on the side or in the back.)  Looking at it more closely, the white pinstriping on the gray wool is a bit unusual — a nice, springy touch.  I’d pair it with a bright yellow top if I were feeling happy, black or navy if I were feeling more sedate.  The jacket (Wool One-Button Pinstripe Jacket) is $368, the skirt (Pinstripe Skirt) is $188, and the pants (Wool Plain-Front Lucia Pinstripe Pant) are $198. Note that Brooks Brothers is having their Preferred Customer Event right now (through 4/7) and you can enjoy 15% off your entire order (25% if you use your Brooks card).

Oh, it’s fun to dream some days: and laugh if you will, but this Armani suit occupies some of my dreams. Love the fit (particularly the way the jacket flares out a bit at the bottom, with the effect of creating or emphasizing your waist), the pinstriped rose applique, and the single button. The skirt seems to fit well (even though the flounce at the back seems so, I don’t know, 2003 to me? maybe I just need to get over that), and the pants look flattering. The jacket (Double-Pinstripe Jacket) is $1375, the skirt (Double-Pinstripe Skirt) is $455, and the pants (Double-Pinstripe Trousers) are $595 — all available at Bergdorf Goodman.

Tahari by ASL - CS Pinstripe Bi-Stretch with Self Belt (Navy/White) - ApparelWe are lovng this dress on sale at Zappos (they seem to have a number of dresses on sale today, for some reason).  Love the sleeves, the flattering v-neck, and the subtle pinstriping.  It’s marked to $97.24 (was $142) at Zappos, and available (as of this morn) in sizes 4-16. Happy hump day!  Nordstrom has tons of further reductions on … well, everything.  Today we’re liking this cute pinstripe blazer.  We like the interesting fold details on the collar, as well as the ruching on the back.  Haaate the skirt it came with, though (pictured) — we would wear it with black trousers or a sheath dress instead.  (Seriously, check out the “from the back” picture on Nordstrom — the ruffles form an off-center box.)  The blazer by itself is $129 (was $265), still available in sizes 0 through 10.  L.A.M.B. We have just discovered this site, Shabby Apple (through a mention in Marie Claire, we think) but are very impressed with the dresses, particularly for the price, and in the huge variety of sizes.  (It’s been a while since we found one cute store that carried a lot of things in sizes XXS – WL (basically, sizes 0 through 28).  In any event, for this Thursday, we’re liking this great pinstriped dress.  It reminds us of something from Mad Men, but without being costumey.  And for the price ($94) you can’t go wrong.  This particular dress is available in sizes XXS-XL.  G.
