I love so much about this dress: the color, the unusual pleats, the pockets. The price, of course, is not the dress’s redeeming feature, but then, it is a splurge suggestion. It’s $695 at ShopBop. Willow Cap Sleeve Double Tuck Dress

Banana Republic seems to have a ton of cute dresses right now, including this simple cotton sheath dress (available in “moss,” pictured, a light “purple petal,” and a black). Love the gathered pleats to give it fit, love that it’s fully lined, and love the invisible zip. It’s available in regular, tall and petite for $130. Banana Republic Sidepleat Dress

I really like the look of this jersey top. Love the interesting cap sleeves and the pleats in the front, as well as the scoop neckline. I’m more a fan of the navy (pictured) than the beige, but that’s just my own coloring. I’d wear it with a pencil skirt and pair of purple pumps. It’s $34.48 at Asos. Reader H emailed to suggest this dress, noting “This link shows it in the ‘Hot Orange’ color, which is very on-trend right now. It is made out of jersey and could be worn for a night or day event, but it’s definitely appropriate for work. I’m planning on wearing it (in black, with a jacket) to an event at the White House this week and to a rehearsal dinner next month! I’ve got some major hips and have trouble wearing traditional sheath dresses, but this one is so flattering. I’m usually a size 14, and I bought an extra-large.” It’s a really cute dress, and I can see it easily being a great summer basic. While I’m not sure I would wear a $25 dress to a White House event, a simple dress can be dressed up in so many ways that I can easily see it working — add some quality jewelry and a black blazer and you’ve got a winning high-low mixture. The dress is available in black, teal, orange, and grey for $24.99 at Target. Mossimo® Women’s Pleated Zip Back Dress – Hot Orange

Readers mentioned this dress in comments yesterday, and it seemed great to feature for today’s TPS. While I wish the skirt were just a few inches longer on the model, I’m hoping in real life it won’t be an issue. I like the khaki skirt and its pleats, as well as the boatneck top (and slight empire waist to the dress). It’s always great to see actual sleeves on a summer dress, and the pockets are also a nice touch. I might throw in a pop of red somewhere — perhaps a necklace or cuff. It’s $79.90 at The Limited. Today we’re liking this regal red number from Carolina Herrera. Love the side pleats on the one shoulder, and the way they continue to the hem; it’s also great to see an asymmetric neckline again. The dress is made of wool, cashmere and angora with a silk lining — so perhaps we’ll have to wait until the heat wave breaks to wear it. It’s $2,790 at Bergdorf Goodman.
