Anne Klein Pleated Front DressLove the classic, sophisticated look of this dress.  The cap sleeves, the boatneck, the nipped-in waist — all great.  It looks comfortable and stylish.  We’d wear it with a classic pearl necklace, or perhaps a chunkier statement necklace — or even just a brooch or two.  It’s $99 at Anne Klein (won’t ship until 8/15).  Pleated Front Dress

Suit of the Week

by C on 11/24/2009 · 25 comments

in Fashion, Suits

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

For this week’s suit of the week, we’re liking this uncomplicated polyester suit from Calvin Klein with some great pleat details on the jacket — it’s interesting but simple at the same time.  We also like that the fabric has a bit of spandex in it, to give it just a wee bit of stretch.  The suit (Calvin Klein Suit, Black Pleated Jacket Pant Suit) is currently $129 (formerly $200) at Macy’s, and is available in sizes 2-14.

Also: If you’re a size 6, there’s a great sale on a black boucle skirt suit at Neiman Marcus…

Elizabeth and James Edwardian BlazerHappy Splurge Monday!  Today, we’re liking this great wool blazer from Elizabeth and James.  We like the pleat detail at the hem and at the shoulders, as well as the simple, functional pockets at the hip.  We’d wear it with colors other than black — perhaps dark purple trousers and a gray cashmere tee beneath it.  It’s $420 at ShopBop, available in sizes 0 through 10.  Elizabeth and James Edwardian Blazer

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices. We begin the week in splurge mode, with our most expensive suggestions, and wind our way to Friday, where a less expensive item of clothing might be just what you need to make it to the weekend.
Women: Pleated printed dress - Black
We’re normally not a fan of pleats for the office. On pants? Please, no. On skirts? Ok, Betty Crocker. For some reason, though, we like them on this printed dress at Banana Republic — along with the geometric print, nipped-in waist, and cap sleeves, the overall effect is more professional than anything else. We’d wear it with red or purple pumps, and perhaps a structured sweater blazer in a neutral like gray, white, or black. It’s currently $79.99 at Banana Republic (was $130) — part of their new 40% off sale. Women: Pleated printed dress – Black
