Sleeved Dresses with Pockets

dresses with sleeves and pockets roundupI was just writing something about the best default thing to wear to a networking event (like a conference) where you don’t know what to wear — and my answer was, if all else failed, wear “a sleeved dress with pockets.”  Sleeves because it looks like a complete look — no need for a cardigan or blazer to forget somewhere — and pockets so you have a place to stash business cards, key cards, and more.  Then, I thought to myself: good luck finding that workwear unicorn!  Despite lots of readers (year after year!) sleeved dresses with pockets!saying how much they love sleeved dresses — and dresses with pockets! — very few companies are granting that mystical request.  So I thought I’d do a mini hunt: FIVE sleeved dresses with pockets. (Psst: here’s an old WSJ article about why so many dresses are sleeveless.)

Let’s start our hunt with some of the top-rated dresses at Nordstrom

Tuesday’s TPS Report: The ruffled-pocket boucle jacket

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

We saw this in white in Real Simple a few weeks ago, and it definitely caught our eye — the clean lines, the cute pockets, the ladylike shape.  Today, we’re liking the yellow version, as it strikes us as a fun way to add a pop of color to an otherwise drab outfit of hues like navy, white, or gray.  (It’s also available in a great fuschia pink.)  It’s $169 at Talbots, in sizes 2-20 in petites, women’s, and women’s petites.   The ruffled-pocket boucle jacket

Thursday’s TPS Report: Wrap Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

We liked this dress when we saw it full price a few weeks ago, but it is selling out like hotcakes at every Macy’s we’ve been to (we featured it last week at the AK Anne Klein event in Miami and people were trying to buy the dress the model was wearing after she took it off!). It has sleeves, a nice fitted look, and discreet pockets if you want to stash your keycard — and it’s on sale. The red and black are $95, or the khaki color (“Tundra”) comes down to $90 with the 30% Off Friends and Family link. Because of the sale and popularity, limited sizes are available at AK Anne Klein — more sizes may be available at Macy’s. Wrap Dress

(Disclosure: As you know, we’re doing a promotion/event series with AK Anne Klein, but we are not being paid to feature this particular dress (beyond our affiliate relationship) — we just really like it (and have ordered it ourselves.))

Thursday’s TPS Report: Jessica Howard Belted Dress

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Today’s post is suggested by reader J, who — like us — wears dresses as often as possible in the summertime.  She recently purchased this dress, and notes that “for the price, the quality seems quite good (except for the belt, which is easily swapped).  Although it doesn’t say so in the description, the dress also has essentially invisible — yet deep — pockets. It’s incredibly flattering on. I think that it’s a great summer-to-fall dress.”  So do we — it’s lovely!  J got hers at Macy’s but we couldn’t find it on the website… it is also available at Dillards.com for $80.  Jessica Howard Belted Dress
