Annoyingly, I couldn’t find much info on this brand when I was poking around the other day, but here’s what I’ve heard: Pippa Madison
is a designer exclusive to Bloomingdale’s, newly introduced and focusing on workwear; the brand may also be a lower-priced line from the designers behind French Connection. Information and belief aside, I like the look of this navy blue ponte jersey dress. Love the three-point v-neck, the slight puff to the sleeves and the small (reallly!) peplum details on either side of the waist. I am loving the origami details on this ponte knit dress from Max Studio. The details here all seem designed to both flatter as well as comfort — the empire waist, the belled sleeves, the looseish straight skirt — lovely. I’d wear it with simple pumps (with, perhaps, a wrap on standby) for a casual day at the office. The dress is $118 at Max Studio (which has a number of good basics on sale right now). Reader M wrote in to request this dress from Talbots, suggesting to pair it with a black jacket. We like! The dark green color is somber without being boring, as is the other colors the dress comes in, a purplish “cherry brandy” and black. For our $.02, we’d pair it with something other than black — a dark gray, or a navy would be a fun way to play with colors. It’s nice that it comes in regulars, petites, and women’s sizes, as well. Loving this deep blue sheath dress by Maggy London. Love the pintucked shaping, love the sleeves, love the stretchy ponte knit. We’d pair it with lighter accessories now — say, a long strand of pearls and nude pumps– and switch to opaque black tights and, perhaps a charcoal gray boyfriend jacket or cardigan in the fall. Today we’re liking this simple knee-length dress from Talbots. We’d wear an opera-length necklace with it (or perhaps a scarf wrapped once around our neck) and tall leather or suede boots. (And we’d skip the belt — it is not doing the model any favors.) The black dress is full price at $149, but the red and gray versions are on sale for $74. What, you don’t enter every boardroom and assume this stance? Modeling aside, we like the dress — it’s a ponte knit, which we like because it holds its shape without wrinkling and can oftentimes be washed on the delicate cycle.
