Happy Monday! I’m digging this simple black dress from Donna Karan New York. As always, I’m particularly fond of the details — the red and white contrast trim at the cuffs and hem. The bones of the dress look great too, especially considering that elbow-length sleeves are hard to find. The dress is $1,295 at Bloomingdale’s. Donna Karan New York Contrast Lined Dress

Happy New Year, ladies! I think it’s been ages since I featured a Black Halo dress on this site — even the Jackie, which has been around forever — but something about this lovely red dress is screaming my name. Love the long hem length, the wide waistband, and the asymmetrical neckline. It’s available in red, cobalt blue, and black at Nordstrom for $345. Black Halo ‘Jackie’ Belted Gabardine Sheath Dress

A good red cashmere sweater will take you a lot of places — to the office (with trousers), to a dinner party (with jeans). Truth be told, this is always the kind of thing I wore on a first date — casually sexy and soft to the touch. It was $248, but is now marked to $148.80 at White House | Black Market. Cashmere Coverup

As the season for holiday parties approaches, I have clutches on my mind — in part because I have apparently lost my favorite clutch, a blue leather number. I’m eyeing the Lauren Merkin clutches on sale at Last Call by Neiman Marcus for a possible replacement, particularly this pleated “Caroline” clutch. For my $.02, a classic red clutch is a great investment — it’s great year-round, and while it’s more daring than black, it’s not so memorable that you can’t wear it to a number of different events. This clutch was $250, but is now marked to $180. Caroline Pleated Clutch

Oooh: I really love this top from AK Anne Klein. It’s a simple, floaty cotton top, but the georgette sleeves add a touch of feminity. It strikes me as the kind of thing that would look great under a jacket or by itself. It was $79 but is now around $60 at Zappos.com (available in dark coral clay, pictured, and a dark brown “walnut”). AK Anne Klein – Boat Neck Top w/ Georgette Sleeves (Dark Coral Clay) – Apparel

Gorgeous, gorgeous cardigan from Ralph Lauren’s Blue Label. This is the kind of piece I love to buy because you can get so much use out of it — it works at the office as well as on the weekend, and it works if you gain a few pounds (or if you lose them). This is the kind of piece that doesn’t require a lot to make it look good, either — that said, if you wanted to try to add a different color I’d go for a light blue tee peeking out, or perhaps a large chalcedony necklace, to really make the red pop. It’s $398 at Saks. Ralph Lauren Blue Label Wool and Cashmere Shawl-Collar Cable-Knit Cardigan
