Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Cotton Cummerbund Blouse

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Akris Punto Cotton Cummerbund BlouseHello: love this blouse. Admittedly, the color is half of it — I have an entire wall of my bedroom painted this color — but it’s the little details that I love the most: the interesting shape to it, the stand collar, the hidden placket, the cotton eyelet. I’d wear a black camisole under this, or perhaps (perhaps) a dark purple camisole. It’s $795 at Saks. Akris Punto Cotton Cummerbund Blouse

Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Tuxedo Jacket

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Rag & Bone Tuxedo JacketI love adventurous, saturated colors like bright yellow in super classic shapes, such as this Rag & Bone tuxedo jacket. The main question, however, is thus:  How to wear it? I like it with the dark blue and white as shown here — but for the office I might try it layered with different shades of gray, such as a light gray sweater, dark charcoal pants, and silver or gunmetal accessories. It’s $495 at Saks. Rag & Bone Tuxedo Jacket

Coffee Break – Patent & Hair Calf Ballet Pumps

Stuart Weitzman Patent & Hair Calf Ballet PumpsReader A wrote in to recommend these cute pumps, which she swears are the most comfortable pair of shoes she has ever purchased. “Yes, pricey…but given that they go with black, tan, and many solids, quite worth it. They have padded insoles too. Super comfy (and have converted me from Ferragamo! The heel height is great for skirts and pants, and if you need to do a lot of walking. They also look super conservative & probably the only way I’d wear animal print to work. FWIW: I’m Ms Bigfoot (size 9-9.5), wide feet and with bunions. And they’re still comfy.” Love it! I think they’d look great with basic black or brown, and I might try them with a dark burgundy A-line skirt as well.  They’re $335 at Saks.  Stuart Weitzman Patent & Hair Calf Ballet Pumps

Suit of the Week: Michael Kors

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits for women, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

I know there are rules regarding winter white — do such rules exist for winter “nude”? (Their word choice, not mine.) I’m not sure, as I don’t think I’ve seen a nude-colored suit before, but this one has caught my eye for a few weeks now. (In fact, I just went through the archives to make sure I hadn’t posted it already!) It’s a really refreshing color — it’s got more pink in it than regular beige suits, and it somehow ends up looking more youthful than white. Can we collectively pray that the “halter bodysuit” it’s shown with is not a new trend — let’s just say I wouldn’t advise you to take off your jacket at any point during the workday. The jacket (Michael Kors Wool Crepe Jacket) is $1695, and the pants (Michael Kors Crepe Agyness Pants) are $895, available at Saks.

Splurge Monday’s TPS Report: Wool and Cashmere Shawl-Collar Cable-Knit Cardigan

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

Ralph Lauren Blue Label Wool and Cashmere Shawl-Collar Cable-Knit CardiganGorgeous, gorgeous cardigan from Ralph Lauren’s Blue Label. This is the kind of piece I love to buy because you can get so much use out of it — it works at the office as well as on the weekend, and it works if you gain a few pounds (or if you lose them). This is the kind of piece that doesn’t require a lot to make it look good, either — that said, if you wanted to try to add a different color I’d go for a light blue tee peeking out, or perhaps a large chalcedony necklace, to really make the red pop. It’s $398 at Saks. Ralph Lauren Blue Label Wool and Cashmere Shawl-Collar Cable-Knit Cardigan
