silver

Our daily TPS reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

We always love a good sweater blazer, and this one from Newport News is no exception. We like the way it has the comfort of a sweater but the authority of a jacket, and we think the gray color gives it a ton of possibilities for outfits. Furthermore, the cable knit detailing on the sleeves and the front looks flattering and interesting.  It’s $45 at Newport News (formerly $99). Metallic Cardigan

We love, love, love these earrings — particularly for an office environment. They’re interesting but not overwhelming. They’re drop earrings without being dangly or distracting. And, they’re probably comfortable to wear (particularly if you have to talk on the telephone for a long time without a headset). Perfect! They’re $45 at Etsy, from selller Cinnamon Cottage.  Little Drop Earrings

These have been out for a while, but if you haven’t seen/gotten one yet — we love the line of Tiffany key pendants. This one in particular seems great for the office because there is a distinct lack of bling.  We’d wear it paired with another long look — a long cardigan, perhaps, with a basic tee beneath it.  It’s $250 for the key and chain at Tiffany.com.  Oval Key Pendant

Our Annette Ferdinandsen earrings are some of our favorites — the wires are very comfortable to wear, and her delicate, nature-inspired designs dangle ever so slightly (and we’re normally not fans of dangle earrings for the office).  We like these simple leaves — if we had light-colored hair, we’d get them in the “oxidized oat” (pictured) for contrast; for darker hair we’d get them in the silver.  They’re $80 at Amazon.  Oxidized Oat Double Leaf Earrings by Annette Ferdinandsen

We love these small hoop earrings — we like that they’re small (.75″), delicate,  and pure silver.  They also strike us as something you can answer the phone in, which is always a plus with earrings.  The small ones are $38 at Momastore.org.   Satya Hoop Earrings

Today’s reader mail has to do with how to wear gray/silver shoes…
icon
icon How to wear pewter shoes? I bought 2 pairs of pewter colored shoes: Franco Sarto Artist Collection ‘Cameo’ Round Toe Flaticon and Me Too ‘Sunset’ Slip-On Wedge. Should I wear them with black? Would they go with a blue dress? (I bought 2 pairs because I usually get a heel and a flat in the same color, so depending on my pant length it works.)

This strikes us as an interesting question, because while gray is frequently touted as the “new black,” it does take quite a bit more thought than, well, black does. For our $.02, yes, pewter/gray/gunmetal would look great with navy. In fact, we’d probably wear it with almost any color — except, that is, for an all-black outfit (if only because people might think that you didn’t realize your shoes weren’t black). For the most part, we would advise that you wear them (particularly silverish ones like the ones you bought) on the days where you can be a bit more adventurous with your wardrobe (e.g., not to court or to a company-/firm-wide meeting).

Readers, any thoughts on pewter-ish shoes?
