Reader M suggests this lovely grey twist dress — which, we think, nearly sold out a week or two ago but is now available in the full range of sizes on the site (00-16). We love that it seems a bit more conservative than the Black Halo line of dresses — the sedate color, the cut of the arms, even the very slight slit in the skirt — all strike us as great for a casual day at the office. Pencil skirts are an office basic, and we love this plaid one from White House|Black Market. White can be a tricky color to wear, but the pattern makes this easier — more flattering on a body, and less problematic if the skirt gets dirty somehow, such as with some spilled soup or errant pen markings. Sigh… we are seriously loving this dress from White House|Black Market. The silhouette reminds us of much more expensive dresses — David Meister and Black Halo on one end, Rouland Mouret on another — yet it’s somehow much more ladylike and less sexy than any of those designers. We like this textured cotton sweater blazer from White House|Black Market. It’s springlike and sophisticated, but at the same time friendly and comfortable-looking. We like White House|Black Market a lot, particularly for slightly offbeat yet conservative basics like these “blurred” herringbone pants, which seem to look more “blurred” from far away than they do close-up.
