We’re loving this sweet, simple silk blouse from Theory.  The sleeves have the perfect amount (or lack of) pouf, and we like the banded collar.  We also really like the way the blouse kind of looks like either dots or an ocelot pattern, but is more abstract than either of those things up close.  Was $150, now $89 at Nordstrom (available in sizes S, M, L).   Theory ‘Vikie – Choir’ Blouse

We like this simple twist ring from Nervous System.  We like that it’s flexible (not prohibitive to typing), and, honestly, that it’s kind of weird — inexpensive jewelry should always be something a little off the beaten track.  We like that it’s almost a cocktail ring in size, but without the distracting bling.  It’s available at Supermarket for $15.   1-layer twist ring

The Battalion Snap Front Blazer JacketWe are loving this white blazer, despite it being the depths of winter.  We like the tailoring of it, the fact that it’s made of bamboo jersey, organic cotton, and spandex (comfy and eco-friendly), and the way it bears no resemblance, at all, to a lab coat.  We’d wear it over a sheath dress, or perhaps with a pair of gray pants; in the summer we’d probably throw it over everything.  It’s 50% off at Couture Candy and is now $121 — it’s still available in sizes XS – M. We’re really liking this merino wool cowlneck from Antonio Melani — particularly the slight dolman sleeves and the way you can wear the neckline multiple ways (lower, like a boatneck; higher, like a scooped cowl; or wider, almost off-the-shoulder). It seems versatile and classic at the same time, and we love the range of colors it comes in: ivory (pictured), raisin, moss, espresso, eclipse, and black. It’s $119 at Dillards, available in sizes XS-L.  Antonio Melani “Clarissa” Cowlneck Sweater

iconWhite House|Black Market has a ton of cute things on sale, including this lovely cashmere-blend wrap.  We like the size of it, a well as the three layers of very workable colors:  black, gray, and ecru.  We’d add it to our office stash, or wear it with a turtleneck, as pictured.  It’s $30 from White House|Black Market (was $58). Wow.  We adore this blazer from Bailey 44.  The stark white trim around the collar and pockets — the clean lines — the notched collar — great.  We’d wear it with cigarette pants or skinny trousers, and maybe add a bright color (red, yellow) in an accessory. It’s available at Nordstrom’s for $350 in sizes XS-L.   Bailey 44 ‘Partners in Crime’ Boyfriend Jacket

Hello, lovely cashmere sweater at 60% off.  We love the basic color, and the fact that it would look great over a sundress as well as with a pair of trousers or a pencil skirt.  It was $935 at Yoox.com, but is now marked $280 (final sale, alas).   TOMAS MAIER – Women – SWEATERS – Cashmere sweaters on YOOX.COM

Suit of the Week

by C on 08/12/2009 · 20 comments

in Fashion, Suits

For busy working women, the suit is often the easiest outfit to throw on in the morning. In general, this feature is not about interview suits, which should be as classic and basic as you get — instead, this feature is about the slightly different suit that is fashionable, yet professional.

2 Piece Satin Tweed Suit With Skirt, Ships 6/15
This cotton skirt suit is simple, wearable, and just slightly preppy — the small “cactus stripe” running through it reminds us of men’s seersucker suits.  To make things even better, it’s on sale — was $240, now $160.  (And, apparently through 9/07, and get free shipping on $100 or more.)  It’s available in sizes 4 through 16.   2 Piece Cactus Stripe Jacket And Skirt Suit

Non-Iron Fitted Bold Textured Stripe French Cuff Dress Shirt
Today’s TPS was suggested (independently) by readers LPC and N: this lovely classic, non-iron, fitted shirt from Brooks Brothers.  There are quite a few on sale at the moment in the “clearance” section and in stores — and with the free shipping if you order $200 worth of stuff (through 9/2), you can’t go wrong.  Reader N noted that she plans to wear her charcoal and white striped shirt (like the one pictured) with her tan suit — an outfit that sounds great to us.  (If you go for a French cuff shirt, we recommend investing in some actual cuff links — they’re far easier to use than the knots that come with the shirt.)  The shirt was $89.50; now on sale for $35.   Non-Iron Fitted Bold Textured Stripe French Cuff Dress Shirt
