Away luggage on sale

I mentioned this in our big roundup on the Amazon Prime Day sales — but Away luggage is included in the sale this year, including some exclusive colors like sky blue and bright green.

Readers have been big fans of the brand for years, and I can't remember seeing it on sale at Amazon (or anywhere, really). The brand features a “patented dual-buckle compression panel” to fit more in with every trip, as well as smooth-rolling spinner wheels and LifetimeCare Coverage.

The pictured Bigger Carry On was $295, but is now marked to $236 (and other colors are marked to $250).

Sales of note for 6/19:

      1. Same. There are only 2 direct destinations from my airport, so I will take any opportunity to schlep less stuff across my connecting airports.

    1. seriously. was traveling internationally for the first time in a while and was aghast at how many “international carry ons” are not to regulation size. and by like half an inch! why?!

      1. Yeah I don’t think soft vs hard is that relevant. It’s about dimension and how forgiving your flight attendant is.

  1. what are your trusty low executive functioning meals? been sitting here for hours saying “ugh i’m so hungry and tired” and haha it’s because i forgot to eat.

    1. -berries (could be frozen), honey, Greek Yogurt, and a big drizzle of peanut butter on top.
-boiled eggs (I boil a batch at the beginning of the week)
-sandwich, even if it’s just ham, cheese, mustard and bread. I find that once I get one thing into me, I get the energy to add to it, for example cut up and apple or cucumber.

    2. Something with fiber + protein + healthier carbs:

      PB&J on whole wheat
      Apple & cheese
Granola with milk or yogurt and blueberries
Oatmeal with walnuts & dried cranberries
Tuna & shredded cabbage in a whole wheat tortilla

    3. Toast pizza
      Cereal
Nutritionally complete snack food: baby carrots, grape tomatoes, dried fruit, nuts, cheese sticks

    4. TKG (tamago kake gohan) or japanese egg rice. Rice cooker rice, crack and egg into it, put in some seasonings, mix.
      Cereal
      Clif bar
      Toast
      ice cream (no really)

      1. No argument from me. I consider icecream fully in the “good for you” category.

I also like the lifeway keffir yogurt drinks.

      2. I eat ice cream for this and it really works. Especially when I’m sick and just need to consume a calorie.

    5. Cheese and crackers (and more things if I feel like getting them out–fig jam, olives, pickles, etc.)
      Apple and peanut butter
      Veggies and hummus
      Grilled cheese
      Cereal

    6. – triscuits with cheese and, if I have it, a crunchy vegetable like snap peas or radishes
      – frozen dumplings
      – migas, because I always have eggs, corn tortillas, and onions in the fridge

  2. Is anyone familiar with the Order of the Rainbow for girls? Reading between the lines of the various Reddit posts, it seems like a sorority with parental involvement.

    1. Wow, that’s a blast from the past! Yes, I am. I was a member for many years. It is a Masonic organization for girls ages 12 to 20ish? We had meetings twice a month. There are set rituals that must be memorized that are used to open each meeting, close each meeting, and conduct initiation. Parents can attend meetings and help sponsor/run the chapters. The organization in general is pretty focused on service, so we would do several service projects a year and then also plan other fun activities.
For me, at the time, it helped me with poise and speaking in front of people. My involvement resulted in some lifelong friendships. And it also taught me the basics of Robert’s Rules of Order, because that is how we conducted the business portion of the meetings.
I will admit, though, I honestly thought it was a dying organization at this point. Kids have so many other opportunities to get involved in sports and other activities now. And it had some pretty conservative rules about dress and behavior thirty years ago – no idea if those have changed. My involvement ended when I headed off to college and I have not been involved in any other Masonic organizations since. Not sure how helpful this is, given how long it’s been, but there you go!

    2. I think Girl Scouts is a better comparison than a sorority? But my understanding is that it’s more religious and more socially conservative than Girl Scouts.

  3. what was the most scandalous story you’ve read in recent days (which may or may not be true)? i think mine is that maybe Trump was the single person who was allowed a “compassionate use” case of a new weight loss drug because that person was 79 and had to know it was available for compassionate use, which wasn’t widely known.

or the whole Tulsi Gabbard/cult leader telling her what to do her entire career.

    1. I knew about Rasputin but apparently there was a similar situation with a prior but more recent queen of the Netherlands re a daughter born after a pregnancy when she got rubella. It nearly brought down the government apparently.

      1. Look up Joan Quigley. Her access to the most top secret of US presidential information during the Reagan years is wild.

    2. Isn’t Trump still fat? Also why would he need an experimental weight loss drug when Ozempic etc are widely available and very effective? I hate the man but this conspiracy theory doesn’t make any sense to me.

      1. The article I read said he was taking tirzepatide for the past year but didn’t really lose much.

Given his track record of demanding his way in any and all things that strike his fancy, I have no doubt that if he decided a random experimental drug would make him immortal beyond natural means he would absolutely bully his way into getting it.

        1. I’m not super comfortable with characterizing compassionate care access as delusional and bullying!

          1. No one is saying that compassionate care access is delusional and bullying. But a person could have a delusion that a drug would help them and bully their way into gaining compassionate care access.

    3. Some of us are speculating that the frequent visits to Walter Reed may be Kisunla or Lequemba treatments.

    4. This is bickering about the napkins on the titanic level of scandals for the trump administration. Not even rearranging deck furniture.

      1. The weirder one to me was the Truth Social post where he apparently misidentified someone in an old photo as his own daughter. Unless he was just randomly praising a middle aged woman as someone else’s daughter? Unclear.

        1. Supposedly the picture was of John Catsimitides’ wife and he was trying to say she has a great daughter.
