black kitten heel pump 50cm

When I was updating our big roundup for the best brands for comfortable heels, I was so excited to notice that Stuart Weitzman has brought back their 50mm pump. Years ago they had a similar low pump that they called the Poco; I still remember it as being one of the only heels I could wear for a while. (I think pregnancy did a number on my feet!)

In any event — they have a 50mm (2″) heel back and it's apparently one of their bestsellers. It looks great if you're looking for a basic workhorse pump.

The shoe is $495, at StuartWeitzman.com; you can also find a few colors at Nordstrom.

Sales of note for 7/3 (Happy 4th!):

  1. what are your favorite brands with lots of colorful summer clothes? i know of lilly pulitzer (and printfresh to whatever extent their clothes are good?), but wondering who else is out there.

    1. Boden, and I do have a couple of dresses from printfresh that I wear a lot in the summer. Occasionally oliphant and beau & ro.

    2. Strangely, I have great luck at Old Navy in the summer. Also I have had good luck wandering into my brick and mortar Nordstrom and leaving with cute summer dresses.

      1. There are a lot of duds to sort through but every season I find at least one item at Old Navy that plays above its price range.

I also like J Crew and JC Factory for colorful finds.

    3. Banjanan, with the caveat that if you are short like me you are limited to tops and the short dresses.

    4. To me, this is the case for taking an actual trip to a department store, especially if you live near a large one. You can scan a whole bunch of clothing lines at once, see which ones have styles/colors you’re drawn to, and experiment with how they fit you.

    5. Sugarlips. If you’re upper end of straight sizes or plus size, then the 100 percent cotton dresses and tops at Chic Soul are great (just note their return policy is credit).

  2. Doing a simple bday party on Sunday for my 5 year old. It’s at the neighborhood pool 10-12pm and comes with use of the club house where you can bring your own food. I have no idea what to serve or how much. I was going to do something simple like mini-sandwiches from Wegman’s but I have no idea how to estimate amount per person. 19 kids, about 35 adults. For drinks doing ice coffee bar, juice boxes, seltzers and waters. I wasn’t going to have an official “pizza break” time but was going to have people sing and cut cake around 1130

    1. I would ask Wegman’s and I assume they know the answer. I think that if I’m ordering food to feed that many people, part of what I’m paying for is someone else who knows the answers to these kinds of questions.

      1. I would discount Wegman’s estimate a bit if you don’t want to end up with a lot of extra food, especially if the kids were invited to the party and parents are tagging along (as opposed to whole-family invitations). When the party is “for the kids” the parents don’t tend to eat.

    2. At 10-12 I wouldn’t expect lunch, I think if you have coffee for the adults and cake (or maybe donuts to go with the coffee), you’d be fine. I say this as a very OTT entertainer too. I’d probably just get a couple dozen donuts and a cake and call it good.

      1. my kids would definitely expect lunch for a 10-12 party or would otherwise eat a bazillion snacks and get very hangry. at school they have lunch at 10:45am.

      2. Same. Maybe some fruit and/or carrot sticks if you want the parents to know there is such a thing as healthy food.

      3. I would probably do bagels instead of donuts. I live an area that’s not super health conscious but donuts AND cake is a lot of sugar and would raise some eyebrows.

    3. This sounds fun! Do you have a sense of whether or not adults eat at kid parties? In my area they typically don’t (except for nibbling on kids’ leftovers) and that’s especially true for a 10 am party that’s breaking up by noon since that doesn’t really fall within a normal mealtime. I would probably order 1 sandwich/person because I live in fear of running out of food as the host. But at least where I live that’d result in about 40 leftover sandwiches.

    4. To me that time sounds intentionally like “before lunch” and I’d expect some non-sugary snacks, like cheese sticks, as opposed to a meal for anyone. If the party were 11-1 I would expect both kids and adults to eat.

      1. +1 – No need for lunch (to me) in that time frame. Fruit trays with lots of berries and watermelon seem to get big play at that age. Same with tortilla chips and mild salsa/guac. I’d probably add a cheese and veggie tray and call it a day, but for cake. No big meal, but parents and kids can both munch.
