I was thinking about the post about culture around here. One of the things I’ve noticed is that there’s less complimenting of good advice and less saying thank you. If you see a great comment, maybe let the person know you liked it? I am guilty of reading something, being like “wow, that’s helpful!”, and scrolling on without saying anything nice.
Idk, maybe this is a silly idea! But just throwing it out there as a way in which I think the culture has shifted.

No. The problem is not people who are engaging in normal conversations not being grateful enough. There’s a long history of mean girl behavior being encouraged and supported here. How else can women be made to think they need the right blouse or water bottle to be acceptable?
Mean girls are everywhere. Years ago I feel like I benefited from learning some of the things that set them off.
Alright, taking my own advice: I gotta admit, it is pretty funny to make a mean comment about a “culture of mean girl behavior”. Of all the caustic comments posted here this week, at least yours was funny :)
Yeah, as long as name-calling and truly hurtful, cruel comments are left up forevermore, nothing is going to change.
so do you think all comments should need approval before posting? or that kat should go thru and delete older comments that are mean in order to tidy up an old post?
I mean, it is technically a fashion blog, so the “right blouse” (and the corresponding existence of a “wrong blouse”) feel like they are actually part of the point.
I forgot if I already said thank you for this or not but just in case I didn’t, thanks to the reader who recommended KeySavvy. We sold our used car for far more than we could have gotten from the dealer or Carmaxx and felt “safer” doing it.

Help me shop for my 14 year old! My newly minted high schooler has decided that she doesn’t have any cute clothes for high school. This is a bit of a shift after living in basketball shorts, free t-shirts, and hoodies for her entire time in middle school. She also hates clothes shopping. BUT she would like the following items:
– a pair of baggy jeans (a la her favorite kPop bands)
-a ruffled/tiered demin skirt
-two “cute” tops. (I think cute means nice details rather than exact cut- she doesn’t like anything too revealing or low V necks.)
Is there one place we can look for these things? Either in person or online?
I’d go to your nearest large mall. I’d look at the following – JCrew/JCrew Factory, Aerie, Gap, Madewell, Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters. I suggest Brandy Melville with the disclaimer that you should NOT go here if she’s anywhere above a women’s size 4/6 – it’s the 2026 version of the 5/7/9 stores but very popular with kids.

That sounds like my niece 2 years ago, down to hating shopping. Good spots to find all those items are Old Navy, Gap, Aerie, American Eagle, Abercrombie, and Hollister.
You’ve already gotten some good suggestions. I would add Altar’d State and Dry Goods as other possibilities.
I’ll have like half a day in Providence, Rhode Island next week, and then to the airport. Any recs? Will have a college student and sibling with me.
I was thinking about a short walk around Brown, maybe look in the RISD museum. Or other ideas? Food recs for late lunch?
Oh man I feel so cheated from the morning thread – We did NOT get PE credit for marching band! But also the athletes did not get PE credit for basketball/football/whatever sport …. they just got weight training as their separate elite PE. I was so happy when juniors/seniors got upper level PE and step aerobics was an option!
My kid dinner state required PE and switched schools and is having to do it again and she is PISSED!
