green Cuyana Double Loop Satchel

Oooh, new color alert at Cuyana… I love this forest green color.

I haven't noticed their Double Loop Satchel before, either — I like that it's a bit more stylized than the classic Cuyana tote that everyone loves. It can fit both a 14″ and 16″ laptop, too, so score.

The bag is $598 at Cuyana, available in six colors currently. (Other colors that seem to be relatively new for different bags include Cherry and light pink.)

  1. how do you get out of a funk where you just don’t want to talk to people? i keep ghosting my friends when they try to make plans to talk.

      1. Yep. But I also talk myself into it and always feel energized and connected afterwards and glad I did it.

        1. I think this is where it breaks down for me. I talk myself into it, and then feel drained and like I need recovery time.

    1. I wear mostly neutrals, and I find that a dark green bag adds just the right element of interest to an outfit. I have three of them (everyday bag, large tote, laptop tote).

  2. Sigh. Working on planning a family vacation with a few different families and need to break it to one of them that we’re not going to share a house like we have in prior years. She’ll be upset but it’s just not going to happen – between their constant spousal fighting and some hygiene stuff I just can’t get past (changing dirty diapers on shared couches and carpets with no towel or mat), we’re over it. I’m not going to cite either of these reasons to her, of course, especially since I know she feels embarrassed about the fighting, but I’m trying to find a way to say it delicately that also isn’t up for negotiation. Any advice?

      1. Yeah I feel like anybody who can’t understand this is being purposely obtuse. And just use the Broken Record Technique if she pushes back:

“We’ve decided we need out own space this time.”
“But we were counting on sharing space with you!”
“Yeah but we’ve decided to have our own space this time.”
“But I was so looking forward to staying with you!”
“I know but we really have to have our own space this year.”
“Oh man you’re leaving me in the lurch!”
“That’s why I”m telling you now — we just need our own space.”
        “Are you mad at me?”
“Haha heavens no we just need our own space this year.”

        And so on.

        1. And also? Do not give in to the temptation to be honest about the reasons. No good can come of it.

          1. Oh, completely. I will not be doing that. She would be humiliated if I said anything about their marital problems. If it comes to it, I’d rather lie and say I have IBS and need my own dedicated bathroom or something.

    1. I think if you book a hotel on your own (rather than a house) then it should be an easy “we’ll be staying at the Pleasantville Hilton if anyone would like to join”.

      1. We already have our own alternate lodging picked out but we’ve stayed with them for several years and it’s what they’re expecting, so it will require more of a conversation.

    2. I don’t share houses on vacation, and I explain by saying that as I’m getting older, sharing space is just getting harder and more stressful for me, and I can relax much more when we have our own spaces at the end of the night. It has the benefit of being true for me, and I haven’t picked up on it being hurtful or anything like that.

    3. Why go together if it isn’t going to be communal? I just wouldn’t plan a group trip if it’s going to be separate.

      1. They can still get together for activities and some meals without having to be all up in each other’s space.

      2. i disagree. idk what kind of trip this is, but sometimes it actually goes better hwen everyone can play together all day on the beach but then retreat to their own spaces

      3. I think you can do nice group trips without sharing a house (especially things like cruises and resorts where you can have separate but close accommodations and a lot of included meals and activities) but I agree it’s hard to tr*nsition from sharing a big house to a different type of group vacation, and I might just opt out of the group vacation this year.

      4. Because even if we don’t share a house, we’ll still see them 8-12 hours a day, so 40+ hours total for the five days we’ll be there. That’s a lot and we’re looking forward to it. I just can’t deal with the factors I mentioned anymore, and those will go away if we’re not sharing a house.

      5. we visit DH’s family for a couple weeks every year and it 100% improved when we rented a nearby apartment. We still spend like 10 hours a day together but the ability to do bedtime for the kids in a quieter way, plus wake and eat breakfast on our own timeline, makes the whole experience better.

    4. omg the diaper changing thing drives me nuts! And I’m a parent of young kids! I don’t know why so many people think this is fine?!

      1. I’m not a parent and this has never bugged me—and I tend to find humans disgusting, generally. But I would also have no problem saying “HEY, use a fre aking towel!” Instead of unilaterally changing vacation housing unexpectedly.

        1. OP here and we’ve done that – they always laugh it off “haha I know we’re gross” or maybe, if we’re lucky, “ok we will next time” and then they forget. But honestly, the diaper thing is secondary to the fighting thing. I get really limited vacation time and I’m not willing to spend any more of it in a frosty household where two other adults hate each other (during the day, the husband will often be gone doing his own thing). I think that’s a fair position to hold.

        2. I definitely didn’t get the impression that that was the only reason they’re changing houses. I took it as one of a laundry list of gross things they’re doing, on top of the fighting which frankly is reason enough by itself.

      2. Changing diapers on a couch is kind of gross.

I’ll change diapers on the floor without a towel. My squirmy toddler isn’t going to stay on the towel anyway so there’s not much point.

  3. i have a new job that involves events at night (benefits, dinners, etc) currently my dressy black purse is my classic chanel which i don’t want to wear to events. looking at quince– what’s a nondescript black bag that is dressy enough for a dress (not like a wedding but a dress you’d wear to a hospital fundraiser) but tailored enough for a suit. Thanks!

    1. Cult Gia has a lot of good options. Or, depending on the event type, I’d grab one of the new season Prada leather chain wallets if you need subtle designer. But, honestly, as someone who goes to these events, I’m increasingly seeing women just bring their phone and buy a dress with pockets.

    2. I have a small black leather Kate Space purse for more business-like events. For evening events, I use a cheap black velvet cross-body purse with little gold details on it. Find one that you will like and you will use it for dozens of years. Try and find one on Poshmark or Gilt – you can get a good deal on these one-off items.

    3. I would check out The Horse. I have a few of their bags and love them. They just released a few smaller bags that I think fit your description around Quince prices.

  4. i thought i posted this but it seems to have disappeared- i go to a lot of work dinners (like galas, fundraisers) currently the only dressy black bag i own is a classic quilted chanel that i don’t want to wear to work events. suggestions for a dressy enough but not cocktail purse? looking at quince and not sure what style is best…

    1. I just took a spin through Quince and feel like those are pretty much day wear bags. I would be inclined to choose the Naomi clutch or the Italian drawstring bag if you’re committed to the brand.

In looking at black clutch bags under $100 at Nordstrom, I saw several I thought might be more “party” purse, that are not fussy and still big enough for a work event where you need more than a phone and a lipstick.
Look at the Nina Jael top handle clutch or the brand Olga Berg

You can also google envelope bag with chain handle and come up with several that would serve as a clutch, which I think always reads dressier, but then you have the little chain strap if you need your hand free while you’re meeting people, directing a client around, etc.

    2. It’s so funny to me that your alternative to Chanel is Quince. Like substituting McDonald’s for a Michelin star meal.
